Merry Meet.
Welcome to Magical Minutes,
A series of short talks on topics of interest to Wiccans,
Pagans,
And Witches.
Whether you are new to the craft,
An experienced practitioner,
Or simply curious about nature-based spiritualities,
All are welcome and honored here.
Let's spend a few Magical Minutes together.
In this episode,
We'll be looking at spell bottles,
What they are,
And how they are used in the practice of magic.
Spell bottles,
Also known as spell jars or witches' bottles,
Have been used by magical practitioners for centuries.
They are somewhat commonly,
But not exclusively,
Used in workings that have to do with protection.
Interestingly enough,
They have also been used as devices to protect against witchcraft.
Simply put,
They are spiritual tools that are aligned with and centered around a practitioner's intention,
Becoming tangible representations of a particular spell.
Spell bottles can be made using small bottles,
Vials,
Or jars,
The contents of which are magically charged and sealed inside using a lid or a cork stopper.
Many will be further sealed with wax.
So,
What are the contents?
Usually,
These are herbs,
Crystals,
And botanicals selected for their magical properties,
But it can also be anything associated with the desired result of the working.
There is commonly a liquid additive,
Such as moon water,
Which acts as an emulsifier for the other ingredients.
Once the spell has been woven and the container capped,
The bottle or jar is often deployed by placing it near doors or windows,
Or burying it somewhere.
When using in a protective working,
The spell bottle is programmed to serve as a decoy for that person,
Thereby thwarting or deflecting negative energies meant for the protectee.
In these cases,
Something belonging to that individual is also commonly included in the container.
If you would like to create a spell bottle of your own but don't know where to start,
The beginning point should always be your intention.
From there,
Follow your heart as to what corresponds with your higher purpose.
Just one example would be using sage as part of a working for either cleansing or protection.
Do some research on the front end.
As you compile your ingredients and charge them with your intent,
Do so mindfully.
As long as you have put sincere energy into your intention,
You can't go wrong.
Finally,
Place your finished bottle in a place that is meaningful to you and where you feel it will be best able to accomplish the objective.
That could be near an entrance to your home,
On your altar,
Or beside your desk.
Some will keep their spell bottles for only a short amount of time,
While others might keep them considerably longer or for a lifetime.
When you feel as though your spell has done its work and you are ready to move on,
Open the container.
Give thanks to the energetic allies you placed inside it.
The naturally occurring ingredients,
Such as herbs,
Should be returned to nature by either burying them or allowing the wind to simply carry them away.
Just be sure that you are disposing of them in an environmentally responsible way and that you've energetically released them from the working.
Thank you for joining me for this episode of Magical Minutes.
May you walk in love and light,
And may all your days be filled with magic.
Blessed be.
