Hi everybody,
It's Nikki from Coached by Nikki Dyer,
And today I just want to do something different than I usually do.
In the format of a talk.
There's a song I've been listening to over and over,
It feels like.
I find that song lyrics can be surprisingly powerful.
Sometimes they say exactly what we need to hear,
Right when we need to hear it.
And this song is a great example of that.
On the surface,
It's a catchy,
Upbeat track.
But when you really listen,
The message hits so deep.
The lyrics remind me that no matter how stuck or overwhelmed I'm feeling,
Things can change.
As long as I hold on.
There's something incredibly grounding about that.
That doesn't promise instant fixes or perfection,
Just resilience.
And sometimes that's exactly what I need.
A reminder that says if I keep fighting,
Even when it's hard,
It's powerful all in itself.
And that when you take the time to truly listen to something,
Like a song,
It can easily shift your mindset.
It can pull you out of doubt and help reconnect you to hope.
Quietly pushing you forward.
It's not just about music,
It's about a motivation that goes along with a melody.
So I want to take a look at some of the song lyrics here a little closer.
Because the lyrics,
They're so simple.
But when you start to unpack them and apply them in your own life,
It can be kind of surprising what comes forward.
It's called Hold On by Wilson Phillips.
Let's start with the lyric,
Why do you lock yourself up in these chains?
This is something that a lot of people experience.
Feeling stuck in your own thoughts,
Fears,
Past,
Or even present reality.
It's not judgmental,
It's more like a wake-up call.
Are you holding yourself back more than anyone else is?
No one can change your life except for you.
Ouch,
Right?
This is the core message of the song.
It's empowering,
But it's also a little comforting in a way.
It puts responsibility back in your hands.
No one's coming to magically fix things for you.
And you have more control in the say of things than you think.
Don't you know things can change?
Things will go your way.
This line is all about hope.
It's about saying life isn't easy.
That your current situation isn't permanent.
Change is always possible,
Even if you can't see it yet.
Hold on for one more day.
Possibly the most iconic line in the song,
And it's for good reason.
It narrows everything down to something manageable.
You don't have to figure out your whole life.
You just have to keep going for one more day.
And that's what makes this so powerful and relatable.
Breaking free from the chains.
This circles back to the idea that a lot of what holds us back is always internal.
Internal fears,
Doubt,
Habits,
Your comfort zone.
It's a gentle nudge,
A push,
To let go of these things and step into something better.
When you break down a song like this,
When you really listen to what's being said,
You hear that this song isn't just encouraging.
It's not just some poppy beat.
It's quietly pushing you to take ownership of your own life.
To believe in real change.
And to keep going for yourself,
Even when it's hard.
And messages like this is exactly what makes a song like this stick with people decades later.
It's powerful.
It's inspiring.
And I hope you go and take a listen to it after this.
Or maybe if you're like me,
You listen to it every single day.
Because I've felt that nothing pulls me out of myself and my own mind lately.
Quite like this song does.
And I hope it starts to do that for you.
Thank you for joining me today.
I hope to lead you in a meditation very soon.
Thank you.
