The hush has come,

The day is done,

Its battles fought,

Its races run.

The light withdraws from walls and street,

And peace comes padding on soft feet.

No need for more,

No urge to chase,

This quiet hour holds gentle grace.

What's left undone can rest a while,

The stars don't rush,

They simply smile.

A breath,

A thought,

A whispered name,

Small kindnesses that lit the flame,

A moment's laughter shared and true,

The strength to start,

The will to see it through.

The hands I held,

The words I heard,

The silence where I placed a word,

All stitched into this evening's thread,

To warm me as I go to bed.

So thank you day for all you gave,

For light,

For shade,

For paths you paved,

And thank you night for drawing near,

For stillness deep and sleep sincere.
