Letting Go Of The Need For Control

With Clint van Heerden

‘Letting Go Of The Need For Control’ invites you to explore what happens when you stop trying to manage every outcome and start trusting life’s natural rhythm. Over three short sessions, you’ll learn to recognize how control shows up in your thoughts, your emotions, and your daily actions — and how to soften its grip. With calm, practical guidance, you’ll move from tension to trust, and from striving to flow, one small step at a time. Music attribution: Harmony of the Earth by Alex Creative Commons CC BY 3.0

Lesson 1

Seeing Control For What It Is

This lesson helps you recognize how the need for control quietly shapes your thoughts, emotions, and actions. You'll explore why control often comes from care and fear, rather than from strength or weakness. By bringing gentle awareness to these moments, you begin to loosen the mental and emotional grip that keeps you tense and reactive.

Lesson 2

Trusting What You Cannot Control

Today's session focuses on building trust — in yourself, in others, and in life’s natural rhythm. You'll learn that trust doesn't erase uncertainty but changes how you meet it. Through small acts of release, you begin to experience calm and confidence where anxiety once lived.

Lesson 3

Living In Flow, Not Control

The final lesson explores what it means to live in a state of flow rather than force. You'll discover that letting go doesn't mean giving up; it means participating in life with openness and curiosity. By practicing presence and allowing things to unfold, you create space for ease, connection, and freedom.

Having a reminder of putting things in perspective with regard to why I feel a need to control was very illuminating and helpful.

Thank you! by practicing mindfulness and being aware in meditation allows me to be present in my life and in my meditation, it allows me to open my perception of trusts, and that makes me feel guided in the fear of the unknown and I can let go… and be aware to that that is.

This talk was just what I needed to hear today. I’ve been struggling with this issue for a long time and it’s been worse lately. My husband just retired and I am constantly trying to control his life. These three words awareness, trust, and flow , really hit home with me. I will listen to this recording several times until l really get the picture of what is happening when I am controlling. Thanks so much to you and insight timer💖

Thank you very much. I've been trying to trust the flow of the universe, tap into the good, etc. But somehow, I'm feeling weary in my mind and not very rested, a little impatient. It's a relief to look at letting go of control as a practice. I can take these small steps: Resist the urge to double check, step back from monitoring tasks, etc. Thanks again!

The primary messages and points are beneficial and practical. The things to be aware of and reminder to pause and choose a more patient, trusting response in the present and flow are helpful. However, being able to understand control and let go of control is more nuanced and requires more than three- 4 minute sessions. Unfortunately these days everything is reduced to surface level sound bites so that they can be done in a short amount of time for short attention spans. This is done well on that regard but has the potential for much more. Thank you for offering this and for your helpful insights.

What an excellent course! Every word was meaningful and of great value. Your definition of trust was truly eye opening for me. I always thought of it as blind optimism. Now I see it completely differently and it’s opened up a whole new perspective for me. I’m truly grateful for your wise teaching!
