To experience a quick release of emotions through a yang exercise,
We're going to try a technique now known as the breath of joy and this is a three-part inhale followed by a long deep exhale to really shake everything off,
To let it all go,
To breathe out the old tension and as well as this breathing out the emotions,
It also the movements that we'll do generates heat on the inside.
It starts to warm us up,
It opens and expands us through our heart center to really crack us open and release what is being stored in here and it is considered yang because as you do this breath you'll feel the heat starting to generate in your body.
So we're going to do 10 rounds but before we begin I will first demonstrate what this breath looks like.
So you take a little sip of air in through the nose,
Bring the arms in front of you,
Then you'll take your arms out to the side as you bring another breath of air in through the nose and then you'll take the arms up above your head,
Taking a final sip of air in through the nose and feel your body and breath completely full.
Then you'll open your mouth,
Let a long exhale out and release the arms by your side,
Bending forward and you can release a sound or a sigh or whatever kind of comes out of your mouth.
Okay we're going to do it a little bit faster,
So let's do one round just to practice together.
Breathe in,
In,
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
Okay now you've got the breath,
We're going to do 10 rounds of this consecutively and just start to feel what happens in your body,
Start to tune in,
To listen and to notice what changes are beginning to happen.
Okay let's begin,
Take a deep breath in and a full breath out and breathing in,
In,
In,
Out,
In,
In,
In,
Out,
In,
In,
In,
Out,
In,
In,
In,
Out.
This time as you breathe in,
Keep your arms up above your head,
Hold the breath here.
Feel the energy running through your body,
Feel the heat,
Feel whatever it is that you feel here and when you're ready to release that breath,
Release your arms,
Fold the body forward and take a moment here to just fold and relax,
Maybe swing your arms a little from side to side if that feels good and then gently begin to roll yourself back up,
Coming to a standing position and closing the eyes and just noticing what it feels like within your body.
Notice if anything changed or shifted.
If you feel warmer,
Perhaps more open and just knowing that this breath of joy is a breath that you can use as often as you like,
Perhaps once a day to open up the heart or once a week as part of a letting go ritual at the end of the week,
Whatever feels good for you but now you've got this as a breath in your toolkit so you can use it as you like.
