In this quick chanting meditation, we will chant Om Namah Shivaya together for a few minutes before settling into stillness, where you can either continue chanting the mantra silently to yourself or out loud. Chanting Om Naham Shivaya helps us to calm the thoughts in our minds by giving us a focal point of attention in the present while acknowledging divine consciousness within us as represented by Shiva.

So let's find a comfortable seat,

Comfort being the key word.

So we do work towards more comfort with a seated posture if we can with a long spine so that our head and vertebrae are stacked properly and we can meditate and sit in this way for longer periods of time without discomfort.

But of course if that's not where we are today,

Then we adjust accordingly.

And if it's okay for you,

You can let your eyes close and begin to orient to your inner world a little bit even as you still hear my voice,

Feel the breath move in and out of the body.

Today we're going to chant Om Namah Shivaya.

And I'll chant it,

You can chant it along with me just for a couple minutes and then you have a choice of continuing that chant to yourself either externally or internally.

And you would make that choice based on whatever brings you more into the present and allows you to stay with the practice without your thoughts intruding too much and getting in the way.

So for many people that's quietly or even internally chanting to themselves.

And sometimes when the thoughts are particularly excitable,

Chanting out loud will help us be more in the present.

So I'll leave that to you.

Om Namah Shivaya,

Om Namah Shivaya,

Om Namah Shivaya,

Om Namah Shivaya,

Om Namah Shivaya,

Om Bring your right hand over our hearts,

Left hand over our right.

And you can repeat after me.

With great respect to Pope,

I honor my heart,

My inner teacher.

Namaste.
