Welcome to Nurturing Equanimity,
A guided meditation for parents.
Before we delve into our practice,
Let's take a moment to explore the profound concept
Of equanimity.
Equanimity encompasses a state of calmness and balance.
It's a timeless principle that teaches us to remain centered amidst the fluctuations
Of life,
Embracing both joy and sorrow with a steady heart.
Equanimity does not come easily to me,
Nor has it ever.
But through meditation and mindfulness,
I'm getting closer to reaching equanimity a little
More effortlessly.
Now let's find a comfortable seated position,
Or lie down,
Gently closing your eyes,
Or
Just allowing your eyelids to get heavy,
Looking a few inches in front of you.
Let's begin by taking a few breaths,
Inhaling deeply through your nose,
And exhaling through
Your mouth.
Inhaling through your nose,
Exhaling slowly through your mouth.
As you breathe,
Allow your body to relax completely,
Releasing any tension or tightness
With each exhalation,
Finding some softness in your jaw,
Your brow,
Allowing your shoulders
To be soft,
Feeling yourself sinking deeper into a state of tranquility,
Allowing yourself
To be fully present in this moment.
Visualize a soft,
Warm light surrounding you,
Emanating from the depths of your being.
This light represents the inherent warmth and compassion within you,
A source of boundless
Love and understanding.
And with each breath in,
Draw this light into your body,
Allowing it to fill every cell
And fiber of your being with a sense of peace and comfort.
With each exhale,
Release any stress or negativity,
Allowing them to dissolve into the surrounding
Space.
Bring your attention to your heart center.
You can even place your palms on your heart,
The seat of compassion and kindness within
You.
And as you rest your awareness here,
I want you to imagine a gentle glow emanating from
Your heart,
Radiating outwards in all directions.
And with each breath,
Nurture this inner flame,
Allowing it to go brighter and more expansive.
Now extend this loving kindness towards yourself,
Offering words of affirmation and encouragement.
Take this moment to recognize the challenges you face as a parent and embrace them with
Gentleness and understanding.
You are doing the best you can,
And that is enough.
Now I invite you to think of a time when you could have practiced equanimity.
A moment when you felt overwhelmed or reactive,
Perhaps with your children or in another aspect
Of life,
Like driving or waiting in line in the supermarket.
Without judgment,
Allow yourself to reflect on this experience,
Observing your thoughts
And emotions with curiosity and compassion.
Embracing this self-compassion helps us work towards that positive change,
Remembering
There is no right or wrong way to feel.
Simply allow yourself to be present with whatever arises.
Taking a few breaths here in this reflection,
Breathing in through your nose,
Inhaling and
Exhaling out your mouth.
Let's take this moment to reflect on the concept of equanimity.
The beautiful art of remaining balanced and centered amidst the ebbs and flows of life,
Just like the sturdy trunk of a tree.
You too can stand firm in the face of advertising,
Rooted in your inner strength and resilience.
Allow yourself to surrender in the present moment,
Accepting things exactly as they are,
Without judgment,
Without resistance,
With self-compassion.
Embrace the full spectrum of this shared human experience,
The highs and the lows,
The joys
And the sorrows,
With an open heart and a steady mind.
Gently open your eyes now,
Allowing the soft light of the room to filter in.
Take a moment here to reacquaint yourself with your surroundings,
Noticing any sounds,
Sensations or movements around you.
As you prepare to transition back to your daily activities,
Carry these feelings of
Equanimity,
Self-compassion and kindness with you,
Remembering that you can always return
To this place of inner peace whenever you need,
Grounding yourself in the present moment
And nurturing your well-being.
Thank you for joining me in this meditation practice.
May you continue to nurture yourself with kindness and compassion,
Knowing that by doing
So you are better able to show up fully for yourself and your children,
Embodying the
Spirit of equanimity in every moment of your journey.
Namaste.
