Hello friend,
Thank you for joining me today and you can thank yourself for showing up.
Allow yourself to arrive by taking a deep breath in and letting it out.
Make yourself comfortable,
Whatever that means for you today.
You might be seated or lying down,
Maybe your eyes are closed or maybe they're open.
Just find whatever brings you the most peace and ease in this moment.
As you arrive in that space,
Take another deep breath in,
Maybe bringing your shoulders up to your ears and as you exhale,
Let them drop and your shoulder blades melt down your back.
Take another deep breath in,
Allowing your face muscles to relax completely around your eyes,
Unclench your jaw.
Today's practice is going to be centered on sitting with your feelings and emotions.
This can be hard to practice because what does that even mean to sit with your feelings?
How do you truly feel a feeling?
Sometimes we have feelings that seem to take over and consume us and maybe not in the most positive way,
But those feelings are still asking to be felt and they are still important.
They can be hard to face and hard to feel,
But when we dig deep and learn these things about ourselves,
It is an opportunity to grow.
Breathe deeply.
From neuroscientist Dr.
Jill Bolt-Taylor,
An emotion only lasts about 90 seconds.
After that,
What lingers is the story attached to it.
Our thoughts reinforce the feeling.
Don't suppress the emotion,
But notice when you're the one keeping it alive.
It's easy to sit with those happy,
Joyful feelings because they are tied to wonderful memories.
They make us feel good,
Appreciated,
Loved.
Those are the ones that come with ease.
The emotions such as anger,
Sadness,
Guilt,
Worry can be harder to sit with.
They can send our thoughts spinning and repeating,
Perpetuating the feeling of wanting to just forget how it feels to be angry,
Sad,
Worried.
Try not to label your emotions as either good or bad.
It just is and it is asking to be felt.
Let that emotion exist without judgment.
Get curious.
Learn to identify the feeling.
Where are you feeling it in your body?
How does it feel?
Practice self-compassion.
How are you speaking to yourself when these feelings arise?
How would you support a loved one that came to you asking for help or expressing the same feeling?
If your heart could speak right now,
What would it say?
What is coming up for you in this moment?
Breathe it in and let it go.
Stay mindful and be present.
Acknowledge the feeling and allow yourself to feel it.
Let the judgment and thoughts float away.
Focus on where you are feeling it in your body.
It is not good or bad.
It is just asking to be felt.
Validate what you're feeling and why you're feeling that way.
You are allowed to feel.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Let go of the story that is attached to the feeling.
You don't need to keep that story alive.
Let it go.
Breathe in peace.
You are loved.
You are worthy of sitting with yourself and your feelings.
You are allowed to release the story that no longer serves you.
Maybe place a hand on your heart.
You can tell yourself that everything is okay.
Your feeling is just asking to be felt.
It does not need to take over or consume you.
The story that is tied to it does not need to continue or play over and over again in your head.
You can let it go.
Feel yourself breathe in.
Feel yourself breathe out.
Bring your shoulders up to your ears on the inhale.
Letting them drop and melt down on the exhale.
Maybe stretch your arms up tall or out wide on the next inhale.
And as you exhale,
Wrap them around yourself,
Giving yourself a hug.
Don't forget to love yourself like you would a family member or a friend who needs some support.
You would tell them that everything will be okay.
That it's okay that they feel this way.
That this feeling will pass.
Breathe in.
And out.
Begin to slowly open your eyes if they were closed.
Maybe give yourself another little stretch.
Feel the air of the room on your skin.
And maybe bring a smile to your face.
Knowing that you showed up for yourself today to give yourself the love and care that you needed.
Sending endless love and divine light.
