Greetings and welcome to the Why Struggle podcast.
I'm your host,
Barbara J.
Faison,
And my intention with this podcast is to offer ideas,
Insights,
And inspirations so you can live life better.
Greetings and welcome to 2025,
Week 3,
Winter Snow.
This is a podcast about snow.
If you're new to the podcast,
Welcome,
And if you listen regularly,
Thank you.
When I went to work on Thursday,
The first thing my co-workers told me when I arrived at the library was,
You know we're closed on Friday and Saturday for snow.
I could hear the glee in their voices.
The meteorologist had been updating their predictions of snow all week.
It started out with 30% chance at the beginning of the week and then moved up to about 70% chance by the end of the week.
I laughed and said,
I'll take it.
I've been sharing with my meditation group now for years that I would love to have a few good snow days.
We don't get snow often in the metro Atlanta area.
What I observed about myself is having a few shutdown days really forced me to be more still.
I know,
I do get still.
However,
I still could use more stillness in my life.
Having this shutdowns across the city means most people are not doing.
When I woke up Friday morning,
I thought to myself,
I wonder if there's snow.
It was so quiet.
I had forgotten how quiet snow was.
I jumped up like a kid and looked out my bedroom window and saw the outside deck was filled with snow.
Insert sounds of glee.
I dashed to the front door,
Opened it and saw the neighborhood filled with snow.
It was gorgeous.
And my front walkway was also filled with not snow,
But ice.
This was definitely going to be an inside the house day.
TD,
My husband and I stayed in our jammies all day,
Relaxing,
Eating,
Watching TV,
Streaming and napping.
Just what was needed.
Saturday,
We got up to check out what was happening and drove around.
We grabbed breakfast and went over to one of our favorite local parks that has a few lakes.
We enjoyed walking on the crunchy ice at the bridge and taking a few pictures with the snow still hanging in the trees.
My gentle reminder from winter.
Winter requires rest.
Winter is about taking in stillness.
Winter is time for introspection and reflection.
Enjoy a few moments of breath with me now.
You may keep your eyes open for this practice or close them if you desire.
Let's take in two small sniffs of breath in through your nose with a long exhale like this.
Are you ready?
Let's do it.
Breathe in,
In and out.
Breathe in,
In and out.
Ah.
One final time.
Breathe in,
In and out.
Now return to your normal breathing.
Place one hand in your heart space area,
Which is in the center of your chest and the other wherever you choose on your body.
And as you breathe in,
Think to yourself,
I breathe in peace.
As you exhale,
Think to yourself,
I release stress.
Let's do a few rounds of that.
I breathe in peace.
I release stress.
Let's do it.
Breathe in.
I breathe in peace.
I release stress.
I breathe in peace.
I release stress.
I breathe in peace.
I release stress.
Continue doing a few rounds on your own.
Beautiful practice.
Let's return back to this present moment.
If your eyes are closed,
You may open them now.
And just take a look around and notice what you see.
Thanks for taking a moment of breath with me.
I'd love to know how that felt.
And what are your thoughts about snow?
Let me know your thoughts where you're listening to this podcast.
