When we feel overwhelmed, or trapped in a feeling of scarcity and “not-enoughness,” we can often find support by tending to the space around us. This short practice guides you through a simple process of reflection in support of clearing space in your physical environment so that you can nurture an experience of greater ease in the body and mind. Through this practice of letting go, we create space for greater clarity and increase our capacity to receive. This practice features background music from Chris Carter to further support ease in the body.

Welcome to your practice,

Finding a comfortable seated position with your spine straight,

Shoulders rolled back.

You might place your hands at the tops of the legs,

Palms face up,

Fingers gently curled,

An open,

Easeful posture for letting go and for receiving.

Pausing here and inviting a soft,

Long,

Steady exhale to move through the lips.

As you gently close your eyes or find a soft gaze just a few feet on the ground in front of you,

Bringing your awareness to the flow of the breath,

Each breath flowing fluidly one after the other.

Do you notice that you don't have to do anything here?

There's no effort.

The body knows exactly what to do and how much breath it needs.

The body takes in the breath that it needs and effortlessly lets go,

Trusting in the next breath.

Each exhale,

An opening of the palm,

A release.

Each inhale,

A warm receiving of the gift of breath.

Always enough.

Sensing into this natural ebb and flow of breath,

Each breath informing and guiding the other.

The exhale joyfully creates space for the next flow of breath to nourish the body.

The breath is easeful.

All is well.

All is well.

Now gently opening the eyes and from this place of fullness and ease,

Beginning to look around you,

Observing your environment and noticing the objects in your view.

Each object is a thought.

You might notice and observe what thoughts arise as your awareness lands on each individual object in your space.

You might notice which thoughts no longer serve you.

What objects in your view do not inspire or generate joy or ease?

Selecting one object and exhale.

Imagine releasing this object with love,

Visualizing the space without this object.

What would it be like to let it go?

Noticing and observing what happens inside the body and mind as you imagine letting this object go.

Noticing any ways of emotions.

Noticing any sensations in the body.

Simply observing.

No reaction or judgment.

Simply noticing the thoughts,

Sensations,

And emotions that arise as you imagine gently setting this object aside and releasing it with love as you deepen the breath.

Recalling that this release is an act of kindness,

A gesture of trust to the universe,

A gesture of trust in yourself.

Trust that there will be more,

That you have,

That you are enough without this thing and without the thoughts that it carries with it.

This release is an act of kindness,

A gesture of trust that there will be more,

That you have,

And you are enough without this thing and without the thoughts that it carries with it.

Again,

Bringing awareness into the body and sensing and noticing what feeling tones,

Thoughts,

Sensations,

Or images arise and softly exhale.

You might feel called to make a note of your experience in a journal or simply to take the object and set it aside and explore leaning back into this trust.

Taking a full breath in,

Deeply exhale with a big sigh.

Inviting a soft grin to form on the lips,

A grin that says yes,

I trust that there will be more,

That I have,

And that I am enough without this thing and without the thoughts that it carries with it.

Gently opening the eyes,

Bringing your grin and your gaze back into your space,

Moving forward,

Releasing one object at a time as you practice this fine art of letting go.

Just what I needed today! 🙏Ready to go tackle my closet and trust that there are others who can use the things I no longer need. Ready to let go. 💓

Love how this compares the out breath to letting go of clutter. Next time I’ll do this with my glasses 🤓 on though through blurry eyes I can see a couple items to release ! To give to good will. I actually have a bag in corner of bedroom that I haven’t brought to the trunk yet! And the trunk still has stuff I’m driving around with ! Thank you !!!!🙏 💫💜
