In this podcast today I'm discussing with you what I refer to as the breath of focus.
Your eyes remain open and we are aware of what we can hear.
Perhaps what we can feel,
A gentle breeze,
The clothing on our skin.
Perhaps what we can smell,
Fragrances in the air,
The smell of the ocean or the forest,
The rain.
What we are aware that we perhaps can taste if we were eating or drinking or the taste that we can have from the environment in which we are standing.
Wherever you are and whatever is in front of you right now acknowledge what you see or what you are doing.
An example may be I am driving the car.
Another may be I am walking down the street.
I am sitting in my home.
I am looking out the window.
I am cooking.
Whatever task you are currently doing please acknowledge what that is.
And then once you acknowledge what you are doing say to yourself and I am breathing in as I do this.
I am breathing out as I do this.
So if you were driving you would acknowledge I am driving my car and I am breathing in with mindfulness as I do this and I am breathing out becoming more aware as I do this.
You may be walking in nature.
As you walk feel what you notice through your body as you take those steps.
You are noticing the sounds,
The environment,
The way that the energy around you feels and then you acknowledge I am breathing in as I walk.
I am breathing out becoming more aware of where I am.
Giving yourself permission to let go of the past thoughts.
Giving the future a chance to be free in the future and truly allowing yourself to come into the breath and the gift of the moment you are living right now.
Breathe and notice what you are doing.
In your mind acknowledge what you are doing.
What do you see?
What do you hear?
What do you feel?
What do you smell?
What do you taste?
And then acknowledge the breath.
Breathing in I am aware I am.
Breathing out I immerse deeper in what I am.
This moment,
This breath.
Thank you mind if you want to drift and take me somewhere else but I ask you I invite you to come back to where I am right now.
Mind thank you for taking me somewhere else but as I breathe in I invite you to come back with me.
Breathe in knowing I am breathing in.
Thank you mind for coming and being here with me.
As you breathe out smile thanking your mind for being present in the focus of where you are.
The breath of focus of enabling you to truly be present in where you are in this moment.
I am walking.
I am breathing.
I am driving.
I am breathing.
I am sitting.
I am breathing.
If your mind calms and sits with you in the breath of now,
If it sits with you within the breath of focus,
Thank it.
If your mind takes you to somewhere else,
A past thought,
A future thought,
A random thought,
Thank your mind.
Do not be frustrated with it.
Do not push the thoughts away.
Thank you mind for taking me somewhere else.
I invite you to come back with me and be here and focus with me in this breath.
This is the way to gift ourselves a life of nourishment.
So often our lives become so busy that we forget to live.
We forget to be nourished by our everyday existence.
The way we walk,
The way we sit,
The way we share time with those we care about,
The way that we work,
The way we bathe,
The way we have presence upon the earth.
Where are we rushing to if every day is our life?
Every day we are creating new chapters in our life,
New stories.
Do we not wish to be present and focused in our own journey?
Have input into the story we are creating?
The breath is like the pen that enables you to write the script of your life.
But so many are not even aware that they hold the pen.
That you are able to bring the breath of focus and it need not take you one more moment in your day because you are doing it anyway.
But now we are enabling you and empowering you to become more focused and present in that breath.
Wherever you are in this moment breathe in and acknowledge you are breathing in wherever you are,
Whatever you are doing.
And as you breathe out feel yourself settle and arrive in this moment.
I hope my prayer is that the podcast helps you in a way to make mindfulness realistic in your everyday life.
Thank you for sharing space with me and may your inner light shine brightly.
