Feeling overwhelmed and almost helpless is not unusual in those who are conscientious about what is essential. If these attitudes are brief, we can manage them with a burst of confidence and courage. However, sometimes we need to consider more effective approaches that address some of the causes of feeling overwhelmed and partly helpless. This meditation includes help for being overwhelmed preceded by a longer self-inquiry detachment preparation.

Welcome to Active Meditation.

In this exercise,

We explore a meditative remedy for feeling overwhelmed.

As we settle down to prepare for meditation,

We close our eyes to minimize any physical distractions.

To relax our body and mind,

We first remove all expression from our face.

Relax all the face muscles.

And we feel the relaxation move from our face to the rest of our body.

We take a few deep breaths,

The exhale being longer than the deep inhale.

As we breathe,

We visualize or sense our excess energy,

Leaving our body with the exhale breath.

We note the tense areas of our body and let this tension go.

To continue our preparation for meditation,

We let go of any current annoyances or worries that occupy our mind.

This clears our consciousness to be more open to new experiences.

We can always return to these outer issues and concerns if necessary later,

After our meditation.

Let go of any immediate concerns or worries.

I'll pause while you do this.

Follow my guidance for self-inquiry and detachment towards a higher,

Inner,

And more powerful level of consciousness.

A state in which we will become more aware of our true nature,

Our higher self,

The conscious presence,

The I Am.

We will have a better command of our instruments of awareness,

Our vehicles of expression,

The physical body,

Our emotions,

Desires and urges,

And our mind,

The intellect.

In the process of self-inquiry and detachment,

We recognize our vehicles of expression that we use and need,

And then we detach from them,

Knowing that our instruments of awareness are not who we really are.

When this acknowledgement is complete,

We are free to identify with our higher self,

Which is the part of us that facilitates our meditation.

And so we ask,

Who am I?

We have a physical body,

But this body changes from moment to moment.

Our body can be tired or rested,

Sick or healthy,

While the real I Am,

Our higher self,

Continues as the silent witness,

Observing the body.

Yes,

We have a physical body,

However,

We are not just a physical body.

We are something far greater.

Who are we?

We have emotions and feelings.

They are impermanent,

And they also change from time to time,

From moment to moment.

We can be angry or peaceful,

Depressed or happy,

Anxious or relaxed,

While our higher self continues unchanged,

As the observer,

As the silent witness of all these emotions.

We have emotions.

We are not our emotions.

We are far more.

Who are we?

We have desires and urges.

They are not stable or permanent.

Our desires change from time to time.

We may want something one moment,

And dislike it the next.

We can doubt some ideas and strongly believe others.

We can express the desire to have things,

Or to be rid of them.

Through all of these changes,

The conscious presence,

Our higher self carries on,

As the silent witness,

Observing,

With detachment,

All our differing and changing desires.

We have desires and urges.

We are not our desires.

Our higher self is far greater.

Who am I?

In our life we engage in many activities and perform many roles.

We are not just an actor playing a role.

The real I am,

Our higher self,

Is meant to be the director of the action in our life.

Ask yourself,

Who am I?

We have a mind,

An intellect,

That thinks.

But our thoughts fluctuate.

They are impermanent.

Sometimes our thoughts are correct.

Other times they are wrong.

Our thoughts may even conflict with one another,

Or be at odds with our feelings or desires.

While our thoughts vary and change,

Our higher self continues from moment to moment as the silent witness,

That observes and is capable of directing our thoughts,

Our concepts.

Our higher self is far more than our thoughts.

What are we then?

We have a body.

We can control it and relax our body at will.

Then again,

We are not the body.

We have emotions,

And we can select the feeling and reaction that we want.

We can control them.

However,

We are not our emotions.

We have desires.

We can direct our desires,

Choose our desires.

We are not them either.

We have an intellect that we use for thinking,

But we know we are not our thoughts.

We are aware these are instruments of awareness,

Vehicles for communication.

They are integral parts of our personality,

Our ego.

We are more than all of this.

Each one of us is a center of awareness,

A focus or point of pure intelligence that observes,

Directs,

Guides,

And controls our ego,

Our instruments of awareness,

Our personality.

This center of awareness is the inner essence of our being.

It gives us identity and purpose.

It is the point through which we view our life,

The universal,

Timeless,

Omnipresent part of our being,

The real I,

The permanent I,

The conscious presence that is in tune with all the elements of our life and affairs.

Our center of consciousness acts like a lens.

It is our lens of awareness that knows how to direct energy into our physical body to give it added vitality.

This lens can transmit love into our emotions and feelings,

To give us more compassion and greater empathy.

It is our lens of awareness that is capable of focusing knowledge into our thoughts and mental body,

To give us greater access to our intuition and understanding.

This center of consciousness truly is our higher self,

The I AM,

Our immortal conscious presence.

Let's spend a few moments in contemplation thinking about the significance of the self-inquiry detachment process,

Recognizing what we are not,

And identifying with who we really are,

Our higher self.

I'll be quiet.

IRA advance Now,

Let's cultivate the right mindset for meditation on being overwhelmed.

By focusing on a memory,

A memory in which you were happy,

Pleased with the outcome of something you did.

Bring to mind now this memory,

With the mood of confidence and enthusiasm you felt and joy.

Let this memory remind you of your ability to be successful in many of your endeavors.

Find this memory now.

Let this frame of mind and this mood permeate your thinking now and expectations.

Now,

Consider what you need to focus on in your life right now.

There may be many projects and duties.

There may be many opportunities that lie before us.

There are many issues from the past that may need our care.

But,

Only a few select tasks need our attention right now.

The rest can wait.

We usually can be more effective and efficient as we give our full attention and creativity to a few select areas.

What I select to do right now is more important than the concerns about my past or worrying about my future.

I am comfortable letting go of other items in order to concentrate on what is most important right now.

As I focus all my attention on the time and intentions I have right now,

I can concentrate my creative energies to be successful.

Let's move our attention to what we have to do right now.

Next,

I concentrate on the major reasons for doing what I am about to do.

I consider why my activities are both useful and helpful.

I know that the more reasons I have to be successful,

The greater the likelihood of achieving this success.

So I briefly review why my efforts are important and beneficial to me and others.

I recognize this value because I can draw power from these purposes to help me start and sustain my work.

And finally,

Having made all these preparations,

I now expect a successful outcome for my activities.

In fact,

I can visualize how my success will appear when it is completed.

I also know that genuine success in any endeavor is often a series of achievements that are linked together.

Each small accomplishment is often part of a larger effort.

A major victory is often a combination of many small successes,

Each one a vital link in a change of activities that contribute to a much larger achievement.

We can rest in these thoughts as we invoke our higher self to help us with the power and purpose of worthwhile endeavors,

To help us move through all our creative activities.

We are now prepared to do and say what will bring into manifestation what we and our higher self are able to accomplish.

Rest in this expectation now.

This is the most helpful track I’ve experienced in a while. For years in therapy I’ve been on a journey of weeding out unauthentic habits, separating from emotions, and finding who I am. This meditation helps me release easily, and sinks me deep into that realm of seeing her, sitting with her and understanding her. I wish I had the transcript of this to read over and over. To the creators - thank you
