If your body feels restless or a little wired right now,
You can stay here with me.
Maybe your mind has been busy,
Or you've been watching the clock,
Or you've been up and now you're settling back in.
Whatever brought you here tonight,
It's okay.
This doesn't need to turn into a struggle with sleep.
We're just giving your system a chance to settle,
Gently,
In its own way.
You're here.
You're lying down.
And if pain is present right now,
That's okay.
We're not going to try to make it go away or fix it.
We're just letting it be here while we rest attention on something else for a little while.
And if you need to shift,
Adjust,
Make yourself even a little more comfortable,
You can do that now.
There's nothing you need to solve in this moment.
Whatever's on your mind,
Whatever needs doing,
It can wait until morning.
And in the light of day,
Things often feel more manageable.
In this practice,
We're not going to scan the body or ask it to change.
Instead,
We'll rest attention on things that are simple,
Steady,
Already here,
Like texture,
Contact,
Support,
Things that don't ask anything of you.
You might begin by noticing the feeling of the sheets against your skin,
Their texture,
Temperature,
The gentle pressure of contact.
Nothing to change,
Just noticing.
You might notice the side of the body that's resting down,
Wherever it meets the bed.
Just the simple weight of contact.
Nothing to figure out.
Let it be ordinary.
And if it helps,
You might also let yourself be held by my voice,
Just something steady to rest with.
And if your attention drifts into tension or restlessness,
That's okay.
No fixing.
No effort.
Just gently returning to something neutral,
The sheets,
The contact,
The bed holding you.
Nothing to make happen,
Just letting the body be held.
You might imagine,
Just lightly,
That the bed is doing the work of supporting you.
Nothing you need to hold up,
Nothing you need to carry.
Just being held,
Even a little.
You might also notice sound,
Whatever is present in the room,
The quiet hum of a fan,
The stillness itself.
Not listening for anything in particular,
Just letting sound be there.
If it feels okay,
You might let the exhale be just a little longer.
Not forcing anything,
Just allowing a slight lengthening,
A quiet signal that there's no urgency here.
And if the breath doesn't change,
That's okay,
Too.
You don't need to get yourself to sleep.
You're just stepping out of trying.
And rest is still rest,
Even if sleep hasn't come yet.
When there's less effort,
Rest can begin to find you.
And if your mind pulls you back into discomfort or frustration,
That's okay.
Gently returning again to contact,
To support,
To something neutral.
Right here,
In this moment,
You can be here.
Let the body be supported.
Let the bed hold you.
Nothing to solve,
Nothing to push through.
And if sleep comes,
It comes.
And if not,
You can stay here,
Resting.
You've done enough.
