Welcome.
If you're awake right now,
And the mind is still active,
You're not alone.
Sometimes the body is ready for sleep,
But the mind is still moving,
Thinking,
Replaying,
Planning.
Nothing has gone wrong.
This is simply a moment where the mind hasn't settled yet.
And for now,
There is nothing you need to solve,
Nothing you need to figure out.
This can simply become a space to rest.
As the meditation comes to a close,
My voice will gradually fade,
Leaving the music to cradle your rest as sleep finds you.
There is no need to make sleep happen.
You don't have to force anything.
If sleep comes,
It comes.
If it doesn't,
That's okay too.
You are still resting,
And rest still restores you.
So instead of trying to fall asleep,
Just allow yourself to be here.
When we wake at night,
The mind often looks for something to do.
It searches,
Replays conversations,
Runs through possibilities,
Tries to prepare or fix or understand.
Tonight,
You don't need to follow it.
You can let the mind move without going with it.
There is no need to check the time,
No need to calculate how much sleep is left.
There is nothing you need to attend to right now.
The night is still holding you.
There is still time to rest.
If thoughts continue,
That's okay.
You don't need to stop them.
You can let them move in the background,
Like a distant conversation you're not part of.
Bring your awareness to your breath.
No need to change it,
Just noticing.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Let the breath be soft,
Natural,
Almost as if the body is breathing on its own.
You might begin to notice small gaps between thoughts,
Tiny spaces where nothing is happening.
Rest there even for a moment.
If it feels helpful,
You can count gently,
Counting your breath backwards from 10.
10,
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
9,
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
10,
Moving slowly.
And if you lose track,
Simply begin again,
Gently,
Without effort.
And at any point,
You can let go of counting and simply return to the natural rhythm of your breath.
Your body knows how to sleep.
You've done this thousands of times.
There is nothing you need to figure out right now.
Morning will come,
And whatever needs your attention can be met then.
Now,
Begin to bring your awareness to the body.
Notice the points where your body meets the bed,
The back of the head,
The shoulders,
The arms,
The back.
The hips,
The legs.
Let yourself feel the weight of your body being held,
Supported.
And very gently,
We'll begin to soften the body,
One area at a time.
Nothing forceful,
Just an invitation.
Bring awareness to the forehead,
And gently imagine the word soften.
Let the forehead smooth.
Eyes soften.
The space behind the eyes quiet.
Jaw soften.
Teeth unclenched.
Tongue resting.
Shoulders soften.
Letting them drop just a little more.
Arms and hands soften.
Heavy resting.
Chest soften.
Breath moving easily.
Belly soften.
Nothing to hold in.
Hips soften.
Supported.
Steady.
Legs soften.
Feet soften.
Now the whole body soften.
Let the word begin to fade now,
Until only the feeling remains.
Soft.
Heavy.
Supported.
And now,
Nothing more to do.
Just resting here.
Letting the body remain soft.
Heavy.
Supported.
Your body is resting.
Your breath is steady.
Nothing to do.
Nowhere to go.
Just resting.
Thoughts may come and go,
And they can continue without you.
Like clouds drifting,
Or distant sounds fading.
Each time you notice the mind engaging,
Gently returning to the body,
The breath,
The feeling of being held.
Softening.
Resting.
Drifting.
Even if you're still awake,
Notice how your body is resting.
Your nervous system is settling.
This is still rest,
And rest still restores you.
Let your attention soften now.
Nothing to focus on.
Nothing to follow.
Just resting.
Breathing.
Supported.
If sleep comes,
You can let go completely.
And if not,
Remain here,
In this quiet space,
Where nothing is required.
Sleep can come whenever it's ready.
You don't need to wait for it.
I'll begin to step back now.
Letting these words fade.
Keeping only the feeling of ease.
Resting.
Softening.
Drifting.
Rest well.
