Welcome to this guided meditation for deep rest.
This meditation has been specially designed to help you float back to sleep if you should awake during the night.
As the meditation comes to a close,
My voice will gradually fade,
Leaving the music to cradle your rest as sleep finds you.
If you've woken during the night,
There is nothing wrong.
Night waking is part of being human.
There is nothing to fix right now,
Nowhere you need to go,
Nothing to accomplish.
This time can simply become a space for rest.
Release the pressure to achieve a specific outcome and know that resting in this moment is more than enough.
Often when rest deepens,
Sleep returns on its own.
But even if it doesn't,
This quiet moment still nourishes you.
Your battery is recharging in this moment,
Whether or not you remember drifting off.
So let's begin gently and with loving curiosity.
Allow your body to be exactly as it is.
You don't need to change position unless comfort calls.
There is no perfect posture here,
Only what feels right for you at this time.
You can always adjust later if your body asks you to.
Feel the support beneath you,
The mattress,
The pillow,
The blankets.
Allow yourself to be held.
Let the places where you meet the bed feel heavy,
As if gravity is gently doing the work for you.
Feel secure here in your body,
Your body resting on the bed,
Letting go into the surface beneath you.
Allow your eyes to close or soften your gaze if you haven't already.
Take a moment to notice that you've already done something kind for yourself by pausing here.
This practice is not about making sleep happen.
There is nothing to force,
Nothing to achieve.
If sleep comes,
It comes.
If it doesn't,
That's okay too.
Be gentle with yourself and know that deep rest still counts.
Sometimes when we wake at night,
The mind tries to solve sleep.
It tries to make it happen.
Tonight you don't have to do that.
Instead,
Imagine setting down any effort beside you,
Like placing a bag on the floor.
Nothing inside that bag needs your attention right now.
Morning will take care of morning things.
For now,
Just let go and rest.
As you continue resting here,
You might begin to notice how time softens.
When we rest deeply,
Time often expands,
Loosens,
Becomes less precise.
There is no need to track the minutes tonight.
The clock doesn't need your attention.
Nothing important is being missed.
Let the day that already happened settle fully behind you.
Whatever was unfinished can wait for morning.
And tomorrow isn't here yet.
Plans,
Questions,
Possibilities,
They can remain gently folded until daylight.
For now,
There is only this quiet moment,
Breath by breath,
Supported,
Unhurried,
Outside the pressure of time.
Rest here,
Where nothing needs measuring.
Now bring your attention to your breath,
Your natural breath.
No need to change it in any way.
Simply notice the calm,
Quiet rhythm of breathing in and breathing out.
Let the breath move the body instead of the other way around.
Inhale softly.
Exhale unhurried.
Breathing in ease.
Breathing out effort.
With each exhale,
Imagine the day beginning to loosen and gently releasing,
Its weight slowly melting away,
Tension softening,
Dissolving,
And being carried away.
The body relaxes a little more,
Settling deeper into rest.
Take another deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
Imagine your body becoming heavy,
Very heavy and sinking into the ground,
Heavy as though you have a thick blanket draped over you,
Gently pressing you into rest,
Surrounding your body like a comforting warm hug,
Feeling soothing and peaceful as you lay in this tranquil space,
And again,
Deep breath in,
And as you breathe out,
Body melting into the soft receptive ground underneath you,
Heavy and sinking,
Completely relaxed,
Sinking deeper into this comfortable position,
Knowing there is nothing you need to do and nowhere you need to go.
This is a time to rest,
To soften,
To let the day slowly loosen its grip,
Sinking down into the ground a little deeper,
The weight of your body spreads downward and outward until there is no edge to hold,
Slowly merging with the soft surface beneath you,
Almost as if you are floating,
You feel anchored,
Quiet,
And fully supported,
Hovering effortlessly between earth and space,
Free from the weight of worries and the pressure of achievement.
And now,
As you continue floating in this quiet space,
Allow your awareness to gently move through the body,
No effort,
No fixing,
Just noticing and allowing,
Bring attention first to the forehead,
Imagine any tightness smoothing like soft ripples settling on still water,
Eyes resting heavy in their sockets,
Cheeks relaxed,
Jaw unclenched,
Tongue loose,
Let the head feel fully supported as though it could float effortlessly,
Now awareness drifts to the neck and shoulders,
If they wish,
Let them drop a fraction deeper,
Nothing forced,
Just gravity and support working together,
Arms heavy,
Elbows soft,
Hands resting easily,
Even the fingers can float in comfort,
Bring awareness to the chest,
Breath moving gently,
No need to deepen it,
Belly softening,
Organs resting,
Everything inside you slowing,
Hips supported,
Pelvis heavy,
Lower back released,
Let that floating sensation spread through the legs,
Thighs at ease,
Knees loose,
Calves soft,
Feet warm,
Toes completely relaxed.
And now feel the whole body,
The whole body,
Notice the entire global feeling of the body,
Heavy and relaxed in this resting body,
As if you are being quietly held by the bed,
The night,
The stillness itself,
Nothing to maintain,
Nothing to achieve,
If you notice any place still holding tension,
Simply surround it with awareness,
Like warm water around a stone,
Often the body softens when it realizes it doesn't have to try,
Let yourself float here a little longer,
Supported,
Safe,
Resting without effort,
If sleep comes,
Let it come naturally,
Continue to imagine you are floating,
Not drifting away from the bed,
But floating within comfort itself,
As if the mattress beneath you has become a calm,
Supportive cloud,
Where warm water perfectly holding your weight,
Nothing to balance,
Nothing to maintain,
Just buoyancy,
Effortless support,
Let the breath become part of this floating,
As you inhale,
Imagine a gentle lift,
Barely noticeable,
As you exhale,
A soft settling downward,
Like a boat resting on calm water,
There is no destination here,
Just rhythmic ease,
And if thoughts appear,
They often do at night,
Imagine they float past like distant ripples,
Seen,
Acknowledged,
Then gone,
No chasing,
Sometimes the most restful thing is allowing yourself to be awake without resistance,
So if you notice yourself still awake,
Let that be okay,
Rest is still happening,
Your nervous system can restore even without sleep,
And paradoxically,
When pressure fades,
Sleep often returns quietly,
So tonight,
You are simply floating in rest,
Sleep is welcome,
Wakefulness is welcome,
Both are safe here,
Both allow you to recharge and restore,
And let outside sounds fade into the background,
They don't disturb your floating,
They simply exist somewhere beyond you,
Feel how your body becomes less defined,
Edges softening,
Weight dissolving into support,
The body resting so deeply,
It almost feels like it's being breathed rather than doing the breathing,
Imagine a wide,
Quiet night sky above you,
Stars scattered softly,
Nothing bright or stimulating,
Just calm,
Spacious darkness,
You float beneath the sky wrapped in warmth,
The air is still,
Time feels slower here,
There is nowhere else to go,
If the mind becomes active,
Picture each thought as a small flower petal landing on the surface of calm water,
It rests briefly,
Then slowly drifts away,
No analysis,
No engagement,
Just drifting,
The mind often quiets when it doesn't need to perform,
If helpful,
You might quietly count breaths backwards,
Starting from 10,
Continuing gently towards 1,
If you lose track,
That usually means relaxation is deepening,
Just begin again at 10 without frustration,
This is not a task,
Just a soft anchor,
10,
Breathing in,
Breathing in,
Breathing out,
Continuing gently on your own,
Counting your breaths,
Softly let go of counting your breaths,
Notice how the body may feel heavier now,
Or perhaps lighter,
Warmer,
Or pleasantly neutral,
Breath is slower,
Thoughts farther apart,
If sleep is approaching,
Let it,
If not,
Remain here in floating rest,
Both nourish you,
Sometimes night waking carries subtle unease,
If that's present,
Imagine being gently wrapped in a blanket of reassurance,
Nothing dramatic,
Just steady comfort,
You are safe,
This moment is manageable,
Your body knows how to rest,
It has done this thousands of nights before,
Trust its memory,
Your whole body feels heavy,
Grounded,
And deeply supported,
As if the surface beneath you is doing all of the work,
Effortlessly floating in the space,
You are safe,
There is nothing left to do,
Nothing to hold,
You are safe to rest,
Allow yourself to drift,
Breathing,
Settling as sleep arrives in its own gentle time,
If sleep hasn't come yet,
That's ok,
You are still resting,
Your nervous system is still settling,
You don't need to watch for sleep,
You don't need to check if it's happening,
Let it come the way a yawn comes,
On its own and without effort,
Your awareness can continue to soften,
Spreading through the body like a warm glow,
Everything that needed attention has been met,
You are held,
Grounded,
And free to drift,
Carried gently towards sleep,
The body is relaxed,
And the mind can rest,
Let this sense of ease continue,
Moment by moment,
You have done enough,
Your body knows how to rest,
And sleep knows how to wander into this moment,
Trust this quiet settling,
And allow yourself to drift exactly as you are,
And follow your body's natural rhythm as it gently leads you into sleep,
I'll slowly begin to step away now,
Leaving the music to gently support your continued rest,
Let these words simply drift,
Floating,
Supported,
No effort,
Nothing required,
Breathing,
Resting,
If sleep wants to come now,
You can let go completely,
You can let go of the sound of these words,
Keeping only the feeling of ease as they leave behind,
Like drifting into calm waters,
You are carried softly into rest,
You are supported and safe,
If you remain awake,
Continue floating gently,
You are resting deeply either way,
As the night continues,
Your body will take the rest it needs,
And sleep may come soon or gradually,
Or you may simply enjoy this calm wakefulness,
All are okay,
For now,
Floating,
Supported,
Let the breath carry you,
And if sleep comes,
Let yourself drift all the way in,
Allow the guidance to fade into the background,
As the music continues to guide you softly into sleep,
Your body is settled,
Heavy and relaxed,
Melting into the surface beneath you,
Your breath is easy,
There is nothing more you need to do,
But rest here exactly as you are,
Letting sleep naturally arrive in its own time,
As you are surrounded by this feeling of softness and stillness,
Whether you float into sleep or simply rest here quietly,
You are exactly where you need to be,
Rest well.
