Healing Our Liver And Quelling Frustration And Anger
Our 12 Acupuncture meridians provide answers to critical questions about natural cycles and the body/ mind link. In this guided insight meditation, we connect to our Liver channel. In Chinese medicine our Liver (our Green Dragon Archetype) is part of the Wood element that resides within us. Sister to the Gallbladder, the Liver symbolises growth, vitality, and abundance. It represents the energy of spring and the ever- expanding nature of trees. The Green Dragon is a metaphor for her influence on the balance of emotional well-being and is considered crucial for overall health and the smooth flow of our emotions. The Green Dragon is a powerful and auspicious creature associated with tremendous strength, courage and good fortune and is our source of abundant energy. By exploring this ancient wisdom, we can honour our spirit, tune into our own Green Dragons, and reset and re-organise our whole system.
Transcript
The liver belongs to the wood element and is associated with the season of spring.
The energetic is an upward moving force and its powers include birth,
Growth,
Regeneration,
Vision,
Activity,
Forward movement,
Vitality,
Optimism and hope.
Spring does not arrive with subtlety and like a tree spreading its branches in all directions,
Reaching for the light,
The sap of life,
The movement,
The smooth circulation is energetic that provides us with the upward and outward expression of energy and power needed in our lives,
Like a seed bursting into life,
Defying gravity,
Its opposing force.
All that breathes needs trees.
Wood gets tough and more resilient in the constant battle with nature.
Like us,
Our wood element,
In health has a strong sense of purpose.
One of the most important virtues our liver channel offers us is to see new possibilities and actualize personal and collective potential through the faculty of imagination because our imagination and hope creates the tension between what is and what could be.
This tension generates the forward momentum for growth and which prevents life from stagnating.
All creation,
Innovation and evolution depend on our imagination.
The liver is in charge of bringing one's inner world and dreams into awareness and fruition.
It alerts the heart to our intuition,
Ideas,
Life goals,
Creativity and artistic inspiration so they can be pursued rather than merely reflected on.
Inherently yang in nature,
The liver provides movement to move beyond one's everyday life and circumstance through the pursuit of life goals.
The third chakra or solar plexus houses the liver.
If you have a piece of bloodstone,
A gemstone that is detoxifying to the blood,
Grounding and protective,
A carnelian that restores motivation and vitality,
Ensuring the liver absorbs all the nutrients and vitamins for nourishing the blood,
Or an ocean jasper for cleansing,
These are wonderfully healing and protective vibrations to place on your solar plexus.
So start by finding a place to just sit quietly and relax.
Maybe this is a natural setting,
At home or even while out walking.
The goal is just to create a space to just be for a short while.
Keeping your heart and mind open,
Just begin by noticing your surroundings.
Listen to the sounds,
The smells,
The feelings or sensations in your physical body.
Just allow thoughts to come and go,
Just be,
Just for a short while.
Let's just take a few long cleansing breaths.
Take a deep,
Long breath in through your nose and hold it.
Put your attention on your liver and feel the organ vibrate.
And then exhale in one long steady breath through your mouth with the liver sound of SHHHHHH.
Hold out.
Once again,
Take a deep,
Long breath in through your nose and hold the breath.
Put your attention on your liver and feel the organ vibrate.
And then exhale in one long steady breath through your mouth,
Making the liver sound of SHHHHHH.
Hold the breath out.
Soften your eyes behind your eyelids or your gaze.
Soften your jaw and allow your tongue to go loose in the bottom of the palate.
And put your attention on the soles of your feet.
Feel the soles of your feet soften and become spongy in quality.
Focus on your heels becoming spongy and soft.
Round the arches of the feet.
The balls of the feet.
The big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
Fifth toe.
Back around the edge to the heel.
Imagine now you are breathing in through your feet.
And as you gently exhale,
Roots grow down from your feet into the earth.
Breathing in through your feet and roots winding,
Interconnecting,
Rooting into the earth.
Going downwards.
And also sideways.
Feel increasingly planted as the feet soften and root into the earth.
Feel that you can take a step forward.
Kick something out of the way.
Sidestep something.
Or raise up onto your tippy toes to see your future.
Drawing up the warm energies from the earth through your feet.
Noticing the texture of the energy,
The colour,
The smell or its sound.
And like sap rising inside a tree,
Allow the energy to be drawn up inside our body.
Drawn up through the ankles,
The lower leg,
The knees,
Thighs,
Pelvis.
And allow the energy to pool in our lower belly and our third chakra.
With your attention on your third chakra,
Visualise a powerful and mythical green dragon nestled in your lower belly.
Your green dragon.
Your dragon energy.
Feel her slow,
Rhythmic,
Steady flow of movement.
Her quietude and grace.
Swimming,
Flying or nestling in your lower belly.
She represents your strength,
Vitality and transformation.
Our dragon energy emulates our own dynamic energy,
Our liver chi.
And similar to when she's soaring through the skies,
The liver energy,
When harnessed,
Ascends you towards the light.
As we flow along the liver channel,
Like a tree sprouting from a seed,
Up the trunk to the canopy,
Our dragon will travel with us.
Pausing at each point to bring unique gifts to us.
Strengthening our dragon energy and liver chi,
Each point will help us to embrace new beginnings,
Rebirth and development.
It is the energy that allows our new lives to take form,
Birthing new ideas or rearranging old ones.
This journey allows us to grow as individuals,
So we can bring our complete selves to all of our relationships.
The liver channel,
Beginning by the inside of the big toenail,
Crosses the top of the foot and runs up the inner leg.
It circulates through and up the abdomen,
Connecting with the ribs,
And then deep down continues up through the throat,
Opening in the eye and ends at the crown of the head.
Our dragon starts her journey at the beginning of the channel on the inside of the big toe.
Liver one,
Great esteem.
This point provides a burst of growth and confidence to start the journey of the liver.
Like a seed,
It's impulse to spread upwards and outwards.
It blows away the dead debris on the surface,
So the wood is free to grow.
When we are aligned with our divine plan or higher purpose,
We can move forward with great esteem,
Direction and optimism,
And a renewed confidence to create a new vision for ourselves.
Here,
The closest point to the earth,
We root to the yin,
The earth,
Helping our chi to get going and start the process of becoming.
The meridian passing through the toes,
Hence its name walk between,
Then inches up to liver two at the base of the big toe.
This is where we help move chi or any stagnation physically or emotionally.
We are reminded that plans must have the flexibility to deal with obstacles,
Adapting with a contingency plan or an appropriate sidestep at any time.
Any stagnation of emotions like anger can manifest in frustration,
Depression or sadness.
So the illumination of fire at this point purifies and matures the liver chi to calm the spirit and help the liver maintain appropriate smooth movement.
Visualize a small ember of fire glowing and purifying here.
Travel purposefully up from the base of the big toe to the top of your foot and we will find liver three known as supreme rushing.
Dwelling at this point a moment has a profoundly calming and rebalancing effect.
A sense of security rooting into the earth.
Our future plans need deep well nourished roots so we can move with quickness and certainty.
This earth point gives us the arena where wood can grow and develop upwards and outwards into the world but within healthy and balanced limits.
Up onto the inner ankle crease just next to the ankle bone is liver four middle seal.
Here this point brings quality and richness to our plans like sprinkling diamond dust over our chi.
The movement of liver our wood element and lung our metal element connect here.
They are the opposite.
Liver moving outward to the exterior.
Lung moving inward to the interior.
This point imparts restraint and balance to any impetuous rush of our liver chi.
It imbues inspiration and peace.
Promoting a smooth flow rather than any jerky impulsive moves.
This point is perfect for our dragon who has trouble seeing whether our plan is worthy of pursuing or not.
And may need the inspiration and acknowledgement that ultimately comes from within.
A third of the way up the inner leg we find liver five insect ditch.
This point spreads and smooths our liver chi.
That upward outward movement and the resonance of spring in our lives.
The unfolding of our life before us can be found here.
Like our own soaring dragon in the skies or underwater we manifest a smooth progression in our lives.
Just above liver five is liver six middle capital level with the middle of our shin bone.
Like a capital city here is a centre of activity where both blood and chi accumulate.
Right in the middle we find an abundance of resources.
People,
Things,
Nourishment and revitalisation.
And just like a big city and all its exchanges at body,
Mind and spirit level.
Here we reinvigorate ourselves helping to continue to foster a new outlook or appraisal of our plans.
The next two points wrap around the inner knees.
Liver seven just below the inner knee is called knee border.
The knee is one of the largest and most complex of body joints.
It provides stability and flexibility and the power to spring upward and forward.
It is needed for many forms of movement.
Here our dragon can crouch to prepare to spring forward.
If we inch upwards again liver eight is located on the inner knee crease and known as crooked spring.
This is a source of water for our liver chi that feeds the tree directly.
This point brings strength and flexibility and takes away the fear if we are drowning.
Conversely here we can bring the cleansing of water to clear out the old stale plans and rigid thinking.
Allowing for our new growth.
It can provide much needed power and strength to help find adaptability and fluidity of your vision.
Liver nine the gorgeously named present of yin wrapping is a third of the way up our inner leg.
Prior to our ideas sprouting like all seeds they need precious nourishment to have the energy to grow when it's time to sprout.
All seeds are wrapped in a protective covering or husk precious nourishment.
Like tender seeds our plans need to be considered with clarity calmness and nourish sufficiently so that when they sprout at exactly the right time.
They will be appropriate and favorable to achieving our aims.
When our liver chi is healthy everything works like clockwork happening at exactly the right time as nature innately knows.
Next liver ten eleven and twelve are tucked neatly into the groin creases.
The first liver ten five miles.
The word miles in its name is no accident reminding us our journey may be long and arduous.
Our journey may still require much planning as well as adjustments and contingencies.
But if our plan is worthy we will need the reserves of energy to see it through.
This point provides us with endurance stamina perseverance allowing us to carry on with clarity hope and optimism despite obstacles in our path.
At the level of the mind we can also get stuck on one superficial or materialistic view and we are unable to see from a deeper and stronger level.
As in aligned with spirit and our highest good.
But an angle or a corner also provides the strength of two planes joined together.
Thus a yin angle provides a strong support to our plans based upon deep yin or internal consideration from a different angle or point of view.
Close by and next to yin angle is liver twelve hasty pulse.
The opposite of hasty is reflection and one of our liver's essential abilities.
A plan without reflection might mean we go blindly on our way creating unintended consequences.
So here we pause.
We wait for a while before rushing into the future and sink into our yin.
Our inner wisdom.
Continuing upwards we reach the last two gates on the channel.
Liver 13 chapter gate and the very special liver 14 gate of hope.
On the outer edges of our waist at the very tip of the floating 11th rib liver 13 chapter gate.
This is the place to open a new chapter.
It closes the old and opens the new to take a new step a new chapter in life a new transition.
We are still bothered by the past regurgitating the same old stuff.
Recycling the old or if our mind is stuck.
Here is the gate to initiate change and turn a chapter.
Visualize this gate swinging freely open and closing.
Giving hope and vision for an appropriate flow to life cycles.
And lastly liver 14 gate of hope.
On the belly just underneath the diaphragm.
Gate of hope is the last point on the liver meridian.
It holds the spirit of renewal hope and possibility.
Hope is what keeps us going when the obstacles seem to block our plans.
There are many times throughout our lives that we may need to make a new start.
This is the gate where we can feel a powerful surge of hope with new perspective.
Rest here for a moment.
Tune into your dragon senses.
Notice one smell around you.
Notice one sensation or thing touching your physical body.
Notice one sound you can hear.
Notice one taste you may be able to taste.
And lastly with your mind's eye perhaps one thing you can see.
Keeping your head still now.
Gently open your eyes.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Now smile through your liver and along the full channel like the nourishing and life-giving sap in a tree trunk rising.
Illuminating and reaching for the light.
And have a lovely day.
