In this session we're going to explore what it's like to deeply connect to the body.
We're all disembodied to one extent or the other and we're disembodied for so many different reasons.
It could be from trauma,
Pain,
Hurtful experiences,
Illness or just simply due to the busy,
Stressful modern lives that we live,
Living most of our lives up in our heads.
As we embark on a journey of meditation and transformation,
Coming back into relationship with the body is essential.
If you feel quite disconnected from your body,
Don't worry.
Some of us just need time to trust our bodies again and feel safe enough to deeply embody it.
A body sweep into whole body awareness is a great way to connect you to your body.
I'll guide you through bringing your awareness from the top of the head,
Down through the body,
To your feet and then back up again,
Leading you to be present in and aware of your whole body.
I encourage you to ease into it and not worry about trying too hard.
Just relax and enjoy.
As we begin,
Find yourself a comfortable place to sit.
You can lie down if you want to,
As long as your body is relaxed and you're in a quiet enough space.
Spend a moment kind of giving yourself permission to be here,
In this room,
On your seat and in your body.
Allowing yourself to be present and relaxed.
And as you breathe naturally,
You can use the breath as a support and gradually allow your body to deeply relax into the ground.
And as you relax there,
Take your awareness up to the top of your head,
The crown of your head,
And notice any feelings and sensations there.
It doesn't matter what is there or isn't there.
Just notice and let it be as it is.
Roll your awareness down your face to your forehead,
Feeling your forehead muscles relax and notice any feelings and sensations there.
Down into your eyes,
And your nose,
And your cheeks.
Your lips,
And your chin,
And all the way around to your ears,
Until you feel your face as a whole.
Move your awareness through your head,
To the back of your head,
And notice if you feel anything there.
Move down to the back of your neck,
And then through your neck to the front of your neck,
Allowing it all to relax as you do that.
And move your awareness down into your shoulders,
Deep into your shoulders,
If you can,
Into the muscles,
And the joints,
And the bones.
If you notice any tension in your shoulders,
Gently allow it to soften and relax.
And move your awareness down your left arm,
From your shoulder,
Down through your arm,
To your elbow,
And down your forearm,
To your hand,
And right to the tips of your fingers.
Really feeling into the inside of the arm,
And also allowing it to relax.
From your right shoulder,
Move your awareness down through the arm,
To your elbow,
And slowly down through your forearm,
To your hand,
And then right to the tips of your fingers.
Really feeling into the inside of the arm,
And allowing it to relax.
Just noticing what's there,
And not wanting to change anything,
Or create stories around it.
From both shoulders again,
Move your awareness down the front of your body,
Into your chest,
And your ribs,
Down through your stomach,
And your navel,
All the way down to your genitals,
And the root of your body.
Noticing the connection with the ground below you.
Then back up from your shoulders again,
Roll your awareness down through your back,
Letting your shoulder blades relax down,
Feeling into your muscles and ribs,
Down the length of your spine,
All the way down to your pelvis,
And the feelings and sensations of the pressure of your bottom against the ground,
Allowing your body to deeply relax,
Into that supportive ground.
Now from your left bum cheek,
Move your awareness down your leg,
Into your thighs,
Down to your knee,
Through your calves and shins,
All the way down to your foot,
And the tips of your toes,
Seeing if you can feel deep into the muscles and the joints,
Allowing it to relax,
And do the same down your right leg,
From your right bum cheek,
Down through your leg,
Into your thighs and your hamstrings,
Down to your knee,
And your calves and shins,
All the way down to your foot,
And the tips of your toes,
Really feeling deep into the muscles and the joints,
And allowing your legs to deeply relax.
And now we're going to come up through the body again,
Into awareness of the whole body,
And we're bringing the awareness up through the body,
Kind of like a sponge,
Slowly soaking in water.
From both feet,
Move your awareness up through your legs,
Gradually,
Until you reach your bottom,
Noticing if you can feel your legs as a whole,
Then up through the trunk of your body,
Noticing any feelings and sensations there,
With a sense of bare,
Raw awareness,
Allowing it to be as it is,
Without judgment,
Or getting entangled in stories.
Awareness moves up through your trunk,
To your shoulders,
Allowing them to relax down,
And it expands out to your arms,
And up to your neck,
And your head,
Right up to the crown of your head,
Until you're aware of feelings and sensations in your whole body,
Allowing your whole body to relax,
As you do that,
And letting everything just be as it is,
With a sense of quiet,
Present awareness.
Don't worry about trying to hold your awareness on your whole body,
Or try too hard to feel the whole body at once.
The key is to continuously relax your body,
And notice what you feel,
And if you need to,
You can take a deep breath in through your nose,
And a long,
Slow breath out through your mouth,
Feeling your body relax,
And settle,
As you breathe out,
And then again,
Notice what you feel,
And spend a short while on your own,
Resting in whatever is there for you.
Before you open your eyes,
It's good to have a really good,
Deep stretch,
Allowing your muscles to relax,
And feeling into your body,
As you do that,
And feel free to practice this body sweep as many times as you like,
Allowing your connection to your body to deepen over time.
This meditation is from my course,
Learn to Meditate and Self-Explore,
Where I gradually take you through the steps,
Starting right from the basics,
Of learning to meditate,
Learning to connect with yourself,
And begin to self-explore.
So if you'd like to go through that process with me,
Step by step,
You can take a look at the course.
Thank you.
