Your body has been carrying today.
Every conversation,
Every decision,
Every moment of holding it together,
It all lands somewhere in the body,
In the shoulders,
The chest,
The jaw,
The gut.
Most men never give themselves the chance to let it leave,
They just carry it into the next day and the one after that.
Tonight we're going to change that,
No thinking required,
Just follow the body.
Lie down,
Get comfortable,
Let your legs fall open slightly,
Let your arms rest at your sides,
Palms facing up,
Close your eyes.
Take a breath in through your nose,
Slow and full,
Breath in four counts,
Hold it at the top for just a moment and a long breath out for seven counts,
Again,
Even slower.
Breath in,
Hold and out,
Empty yourself completely.
Return to a normal pattern of breathing,
Feel the surface beneath you taking your full weight.
You don't have to hold yourself up anymore,
Let everything sink.
We're going to move through your body slowly,
Top to bottom,
No rushing.
Start with your face,
Your forehead,
Let it smooth out,
Your eyes,
Closed and slightly gazing up towards your forehead,
Your jaw,
Let it drop slightly,
If your teeth are touching,
Let them part.
Down into your neck and throat,
All day you've been talking,
Thinking,
Performing,
Let that area go quiet now.
Your shoulders,
Feel them drop away from your ears,
A little more than you think they need to,
Down through your arms,
Your hands,
Let your fingers curl naturally,
No grip,
Nothing to hold,
Your chest,
Your ribcage,
Feel it rise and fall without you managing it,
Just let it breathe on its own,
Your stomach,
This is where a lot of the day lives.
If there's tightness here,
Just notice it,
Breathe into it.
Down through your hips,
The base of your spine,
Let them be heavy,
Your legs,
Your thighs,
Your calves,
Let them sink into the surface beneath you and finally your feet,
Let them fall open,
Completely relaxed.
Where is the last bit of tension still holding on,
Find it,
Breathe into it once and on the exhale let it soften,
See,
Your body has been in service all day,
It absorbed the stress when you couldn't show it,
It stayed alert when you needed to perform,
It held the weight of everything you didn't say.
Most men treat the body like a vehicle,
Something to push through the day and refuel when it breaks down,
But the body keeps score and what doesn't get released,
Stays.
What did your body carry today that you never acknowledged,
Let that question move through you gently,
No need to answer it with words,
Just feel whatever comes.
Take a slow breath in now and as you breathe out,
Imagine the day leaving your body,
Not in a dramatic way,
Just releasing through the breath.
The tension in your shoulders,
Out with the breath,
The weight in your chest,
Out with the breath,
Whatever's sitting in your gut,
Out with the breath.
The day is done,
It happened,
It was what it was and now your only job is to rest,
Pause,
You don't owe anyone anything more tonight.
Let your breathing find it's own rhythm,
Slow,
Natural,
Effortless,
Feel how different your body is now compared to when you started,
That's not nothing,
That's what it feels like to take care of yourself.
Just stay here,
Heavy,
Warm,
Still,
Rest now.
