Embodiment can be defined as the act of expanding one's self-awareness to include the felt experience of the body.
Begin to get settled in a comfortable position where you feel supported.
Begin to land in this moment,
Giving yourself a breath.
Begin to look around the room,
The space that you're in,
Gently signaling to your nervous system that you're safe here,
Safe to tune in,
Safe to land,
Safe to just be.
If you'd like to,
You can close your eyes or just keep a soft gaze.
Begin to notice sensations in your body,
Welcoming them without judgment,
Getting to know what's here.
Let this be a gentle awareness,
Simply observing what is,
Noticing where your attention goes.
There is nothing to change,
Nothing to fix.
Just notice.
Now begin to sense the space around you.
There is room for all of you to be here.
Feel the support of the surface beneath you.
Breathing in,
Breathing out,
Releasing into that surface.
Begin to notice your body moving as it breathes,
The expansion of your ribcage,
The rise and fall of your chest,
Your belly.
Simply being present,
Notice the subtle movements of your eyes,
Invite your forehead to relax,
Your jaw to soften.
Breathing into this release,
Saying hello to this body of yours,
Bringing your attention to your arms and your hands,
These arms that have allowed you to hug your loved ones,
To reach,
To receive,
Connect,
Shaking the hand of a new friend,
Giving a high five,
Thank you hands,
Thank you arms.
Now sensing your pelvis,
These hips that have helped you when you needed to pivot,
This area providing support for your organs and helping you find your way in the world,
Thank you pelvis.
Bringing your attention now to your legs and your feet,
Wiggling your toes,
Remembering all the little bones,
26 in each foot,
That have helped you to move forward,
Connect with the ground,
Get to know the terrain,
Helping you to find and regain your balance,
Thank you legs,
Thank you feet.
Now acknowledging the systems that are all working together so beautifully to support you to be in this very moment,
As they provide structure,
Enable movement,
Maintain homeostasis,
Process nutrients,
Thank you body.
Pema Chodron writes,
This very body that we have,
That's sitting right here right now,
With all its aches and its pleasures,
Is exactly what we need to be fully human,
Fully awake,
Fully alive.
Notice what happens as you're here,
Feeling this body of yours,
Noticing sensations,
Remembering all that it does,
There is nothing to fix,
Nothing to do,
Just be here,
There is room for all of you.
Notice if energy wants to move,
If feelings are making their way to the surface,
Just give them some time.
Let me remind you that nothing is permanent.
Allow yourself to feel the spectrum of humanness as energy moves through you,
Your body gently speaking through sensation,
What do you imagine it is saying in this moment,
What is it your body would like you to know,
Is there anything you would like to say to your body,
Let yourself be held here,
With this new awareness,
Begin to find some movement in your body,
Noticing the sensations that show up,
Finding a deeper breath,
Soft inhale,
Gentle exhale,
And as begin to take in the world around you again,
Open your eyes or adjust your gaze,
Still aware of sensations in your body breathing,
Giving yourself one more breath with appreciation for your body,
Inhale and exhale.
There is room for all of you here,
Go gently my friend,
From my heart to yours.
