Good morning friend,
And thank you so much for joining me.
My name is Mark Rowland.
Before anything else happens today,
Before the inevitable conversations and plans,
The small victories and small frustrations,
Before all of those,
There is this moment.
You are here,
Awake,
Breathing,
Present in a new day that has never even existed before,
And will never ever exist again in quite the same way.
Let yourself arrive fully.
Feel where your body is being supported.
The weight of you resting into your chair,
The floor,
Or the bed.
Notice how gravity is already doing most of the work for you.
You are being held by the earth,
And the earth asks nothing of you.
Nothing required.
Nothing to prove to anyone.
Take a slow breath in,
And let it move out again,
Just flowing without any effort.
Another gentle breath,
And as you breathe,
There is no need to improve the breath,
It already knows how to breathe you.
You are being breathed just as much as you are breathing.
It is a rhythm older than your thoughts,
Older than your worries,
And it moves through you with complete reliability.
This is where your day begins.
It does not begin in your mind's plans,
Or in a list of what must be accomplished today.
This brand new day begins here,
In this beautiful living body,
In this breathing presence.
The best version of you today is not some make-believe character that you must invent.
It is a presence that grows naturally from being fully here.
Notice any sounds around you,
Distant sounds,
Nearby sounds,
The hum of the world waking up.
You do not need to strain to chase the sounds,
Or label them.
Let them pass through awareness,
Just as the way the wind passes through an open window.
They are part of this morning,
And you are part of the same morning.
There is no separation between you,
And this moment.
The air touching your skin now has travelled across vast oceans and forests.
The light entering the room began its journey minutes ago from the sun.
You are woven into a much larger movement.
And my friend,
When you remember this,
There is so much less pressure to perform,
And so much more space,
More room to participate.
The best version of you is not a rigid ideal.
The best version of you is a living response to what is happening now.
Feel your heartbeat if you can,
Even if it is subtle.
A quiet drum keeping time inside of you.
It has carried you through the night,
And into this day.
There is such a kind intelligence in your body,
That does not need constant instruction.
You are already equipped with wisdom that works silently.
No need to force anything.
You can rest easy with that knowing.
Because you do not have to force yourself into being better.
You simply allow yourself into being more honest,
More awake,
More available.
Like a master musician tuning an instrument,
You too are gently aligning with what is already here.
Imagine the upcoming day ahead.
Not as a test,
But as a conversation.
A conversation between you and the world.
Every single moment asks something simple,
And that is,
Will you meet this fully?
Will you show up as you are?
Please know this that,
Being the best version of yourself today,
Does not mean being perfect.
It means being present enough to respond,
Instead of reacting.
And it means letting your attention touch whatever you are doing.
Whether that is,
Drinking your morning cup of tea,
Eating your lunch,
Sending an email,
Or listening attentively to a fellow human speak.
Feel your hands,
The subtle tingling or warmth inside them.
These are the hands that will move through the day,
Gently touching objects,
Opening doors,
Preparing food,
Offering gestures of kindness.
They are sacred instruments of connection.
Allow them to soften.
Let them be ready.
Feel your face,
The muscles around the eyes,
The jaw,
The tongue,
Allowing them to release.
A relaxed face really does change the way you see the world.
It becomes so much easier to meet others without armour.
The best version of you is not hidden behind tension.
It is revealed softly through ease.
Take another breath.
As the breath flows in,
Imagine it carrying freshness throughout your body.
As it flows out,
Imagine it clearing the residue of yesterday.
For you are not required to carry every old story into this brand new morning.
You are permitted to begin freshly again.
Consider that today is an opportunity to practice being yourself with less resistance.
Not a different self,
Not a grander self.
Simply the version of you that is most aligned with your values,
Your curiosity,
Your kindness.
All of these qualities are not added from the outside.
They are uncovered when you stop arguing with the moment.
Let your awareness rest in the chest area.
Notice whatever is there.
Spaciousness,
Tightness,
Neutrality,
Warmth.
Whatever is there,
There is no need to change it.
You are making room for your own inner weather.
And the best version of you includes the full spectrum of the human feeling.
It does not demand constant bathing in sunshine.
For it learns to stand gently dancing in the rain too.
Allow your experience to be exactly what it is.
Imagine walking through the day with a sense of listening.
And that's listening not only to other people but to your own inner energy.
When you feel rushed,
You notice it.
When you feel inspired,
You notice it too.
And this listening is such a powerful form of self-respect.
And from that respect,
Wiser choices tend to emerge easily and naturally.
Picture one simple moment that will likely happen today.
Perhaps greeting someone.
Perhaps stepping outside or sitting down to work.
And see yourself entering that moment with awareness.
Your breath steady.
Your attention open.
Your presence truly felt.
For this is how the best version of you appears.
It appears through ordinary moments,
Inhabited fully.
Rest in silence for a few breaths.
Allow the body breath.
Let the mind settle like sediment in water.
You do not need to empty the mind.
You can just allow it to find its own balance.
Thoughts will come and go.
They are movements of the same life that moves the clouds and the tides.
And you can watch them without being pulled away.
There is space here.
And in this space,
Intention can arise gently.
Now,
If it feels right,
You might like to form a simple intention for the day.
Something spacious and kind.
Make it more of a tone rather than a demand.
Perhaps an intention to move with patience or to speak honestly.
Or to really notice beauty where you might normally be in too much of a rush to notice.
And let the intention sit lightly inside of you.
It's a direction,
Not a command.
Feel again the support beneath your body.
The ground is not moved,
The breath continuing.
The heart beating.
Life is already in motion.
Carrying you forward.
Remember friend,
You are not separate from the day you are about to inhabit.
You are an expression of it.
Take a slightly deeper breath now.
And as you exhale,
Sense the outline of your body.
The shape of you sitting or lying here.
The edges where skin meets air.
You are here.
Distinct and unique.
Beautifully you.
But at the same time inseparable from everything that allows you to exist.
This paradox is the beauty of being human.
And the best version of you today is one that remembers both truths.
Your individuality and your belonging.
Rest with that just for a few breaths.
And when you are ready to move toward closing.
Begin to invite a little more energy into the body.
Deepening the breath slightly.
Wiggling the fingers and toes.
Feel the aliveness returning to the surface.
Place a hand over your heart if that feels comfortable.
A simple gesture of acknowledgement.
That you have taken time to meet yourself before meeting the world today.
This is an act of great care.
Let it register.
Take one final slow breath in.
And release it with a soft sigh.
And as you continue into your morning.
Carry this understanding that the best version of you.
Is not some abstract thing in the future.
Waiting to be achieved.
For it unfolds moment by moment.
When you are willing to be here now.
Attentive and kind.
Participating in a day as it actually is.
And when you stand up.
Stand up with awareness.
Feel the feet touching the ground.
And feel the breath moving.
Let your first steps be part of the meditation.
The day is just beginning.
Go and meet it.
Have a beautiful rest of your day.
Go in peace.
Namaste.
