Welcome to this meditation called the freedom in not knowing.

If you often feel caught in loops of overthinking,

For example trying to control something,

Fix it,

Or to figure everything out,

This is the space for you to pause.

Today,

We won't be trying to silence the mind,

We won't be rejecting thought,

Instead we'll look clearly,

Honestly at the mind's movement and discover something quietly transformative in doing so.

So first,

Just take a moment to let your body settle.

Feel the contact points with the floor or chair and let the breath flow naturally.

There's no need to adjust it or control it,

Just let it be.

You're simply observing.

There may already be thoughts and that's okay,

We're not here to push them away,

To fight them,

Just watch.

Now see if you can gently notice,

Is there something your mind is trying to solve right now,

A decision,

A problem,

A fear,

A future plan?

Notice the movement of thought surrounding this thing,

The need to know,

To arrive somewhere.

Watch closely.

Can you see that the you who wants to figure this all out is not separate from the thought itself,

That the I is not outside this mental activity but is itself made of it?

Thought can be a great trickster,

It creates the illusion that there is a separation between the thinker,

You,

And the thoughts themselves.

When we say,

I am having these thoughts,

That is thought talking to itself.

Thought creates the thinker.

A doubtful thought imagines the one who is doubting.

Fear imagines the one who is fearful,

But they are one thing,

So breathe and let that be seen,

Not as an idea or a concept but as a living fact.

If we could completely stop thought,

We would no longer have a sense of I,

What would be left is pure awareness,

Led by the senses,

By experience,

By the present.

So what happens when you see this clearly as a fact,

That the I is part of thoughts movement and not something behind it?

There's no need to resist this,

For many people the idea that we are thought is scary,

Because thought wants to hold on to it,

To protect itself,

So that it can keep dictating,

Instructing,

Planning and worrying.

You're not watching thought from a distance,

You are the watching.

And from this clarity,

We learn that there's nothing to solve,

There's no me to fix,

Just the open fluid movement of experience,

Which is sensations,

Breath,

Life.

And not knowing is not a failure,

It is freedom from the illusion of the known,

It is freedom from trying to control the future,

It is freedom from letting the past dictate how we should be now.

Not knowing opens the door to discovery,

Because when we do not know,

We are alive,

Sharp,

Attentive to the present as it reveals itself to us.

And as we come to the end of this meditation,

Just sit with what is here,

Not needing to define it,

Not needing to name it.

And in this sitting you may notice that the mind is quieter,

Not because you silenced it,

But because you saw it clearly,

Not from above,

Not from outside,

But from within the very heart of it.

And when you're ready,

Gently open your eyes or return your awareness to the room around you.

Thank you for joining me,

May the freedom of not knowing be a space of clarity,

Not confusion,

A space where thought is seen as it is,

Without distortion and the self no longer hiding behind it.
