If your mind feels busy tonight,
You're not alone.
Minds think,
That's what they do,
Especially at night and when things grow quiet.
You don't need to stop your thoughts,
You don't need to argue with them,
You don't need to figure out anything right now.
This is not the time for solving,
This is the time for resting.
Take a slow breath in and let it leave gently.
You might notice your thoughts moving quickly,
Jumping from one thing to another,
Replaying conversations,
Planning for tomorrow,
Remembering something from years ago.
Just let them move,
Imagine they're clouds crossing a wide night sky.
You don't have to chase them,
You don't have to clear the sky.
You just notice them drifting,
Appearing,
Shifting,
Passing.
When a thought pulls strongly at your attention,
Gently say to yourself,
Not now,
Rest.
Again,
If another thought comes,
Not now,
Rest.
No frustration,
No force,
Just a soft boundary.
Not now,
Rest.
But let's give your mind something to simply hold.
We'll count the breath down from 10 to 1.
So inhale,
Exhale,
10.
Just your normal natural breathing.
Inhale,
Exhale,
9.
Slow and easy,
Inhale,
Exhale,
8.
If you lose track,
That's okay.
Just begin again at 10.
There's no failure here,
Only rhythm,
But continue counting at your own pace.
And as your breath steadies,
Imagine each exhale turning down the volume of your thoughts.
Not silencing them completely,
Just softening them.
Like lowering the lights in a room,
A little dimmer,
A little quieter,
A little gentler.
Your mind does not need to be empty to rest,
It only needs to feel safe enough to slow down.
Anything that feels urgent right now will still be there tomorrow,
Anything that feels unfinished can wait.
Right now,
Your only responsibility is this breath,
This pillow,
This moment.
Let your breathing grow just a little longer on the exhale.
You can inhale for 4,
And exhale for 5 or 6.
Let the exhale be your signal to soften,
And with every breath out,
Your body grows heavier,
Your mind grows quieter.
Not because you forced it,
But because you stopped feeding it.
And if thoughts continue,
Let them drift like distant radio chatter.
Remember,
You don't have to tune in,
Just rest,
Just breathe,
Just be here.
The night is long,
There is time to sleep,
And your mind knows how to settle when it's no longer being asked to perform.
So let the breath carry you.
Let the quiet grow,
And allow yourself to drift.
