This is day one of a seven-day grounding meditation series.
My intention with these practices is to offer you a space to return to presence and give yourself a daily moment of peace.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable space,
Whether seated or lying down.
Whatever allows your body to feel most at ease right now.
Gently begin to soften down your eyes until they eventually close or find a soft gaze if that feels more comfortable to you.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and let it go through your mouth,
Releasing the day,
Releasing the doing.
Feel the air moving through you,
A gentle reminder that life supports you with every inhale,
With every exhale.
Allow your breath to find its own rhythm,
Steady and soft,
Like waves gently meeting the shore.
There's nowhere you need to be,
Nothing you need to do,
Just this moment,
Just this breath.
Let yourself arrive here fully,
Not rushing,
Just landing.
Now bring your awareness to your body.
Begin to notice the places where your body meets the surface beneath you.
Your feet,
Your legs,
Your sitting bones,
Your back,
The back of your head.
Feel how the earth holds you without question,
Without effort.
It has been here,
Always,
Steady,
Waiting to support you.
Take a moment to feel into your body,
Notice if there are places that feel tension.
Allow yourself the space to soften,
To breathe into those spaces.
Soften your belly,
Let it rise and fall with each breath,
Soft and round,
Like the earth herself breathing.
Soften your shoulders,
Let them drop away from your ears,
Melting down toward the earth,
Soften the muscles of your jaw,
Let your tongue rest gently in your mouth,
Soften the space between your eyebrows.
Now imagine roots growing from the soles of your feet or from the base of your spine,
Reaching deep into the earth.
Feel them extending down through soil and stone,
Connecting you to something ancient,
Something vast,
A grounding force that has held countless lives before you,
That holds you now.
A gentle reminder that you are connected,
You are held,
You are part of this earth.
Now imagine yourself standing beside a river,
Feel the coolness in the air near the water,
Hear the sound of the water,
Steady,
Rhythmic,
Like a song the earth has been singing since the beginning.
The river flows beside you,
Steadily,
Unhurried,
It carries with it the wisdom of the mountains,
The rain of the earth.
Step closer now,
Feel the soft earth beneath your feet,
Slightly damp near the water's edge.
Look at the river,
Notice the way the light moves across its surface,
Gentle ripples catching the sun,
Shadows dancing beneath.
Watch how the water moves around the stones it meets,
It doesn't fight them,
It doesn't cling to them,
It simply flows,
Adapting,
Trusting the path that unfolds.
The river has been flowing for longer than you can imagine,
Will continue flowing long after this moment.
As you stand here,
Feel the energy of this river,
The calm confidence in its journey.
This river is life itself,
It reminds you that every obstacle,
Every bend,
Every pause is part of the greater flow.
You have been trying so hard to control the path,
To see around every corner,
To know what comes next.
But the river doesn't need to see the ocean to know it will arrive there.
Just like you don't need to have all the answers,
You don't need to figure it out right now.
Life knows the way,
The current knows where it's going.
What if,
Just for this moment,
You could trust that?
This is your invitation,
Not to give up,
Not to stop caring,
But to soften your grip.
Now imagine holding a small stone in your hand.
Feel its weight in your palm,
Its temperature,
Cool or warm,
Its texture,
Smooth or rough.
This stone represents anything you've been carrying,
Maybe its worries,
Fears,
The weight of uncertainty,
The need to control,
The exhaustion of trying to hold everything together.
Take a moment to acknowledge what this stone holds for you,
Without judgement,
Without trying to fix it,
Just noticing.
When you're ready,
Step closer to the river's edge,
Hold the stone in your palm,
Feel its weight one last time,
And whisper to it gently,
I release you,
I trust the flow of life.
And when you feel ready,
Drop the stone into the water.
Watch as the current takes the stone,
Carrying it downstream,
Letting it become part of the river's story.
Feel the lightness in your hand now,
The space where the weight used to be.
Bring your awareness to your body,
Notice what's different,
Maybe there is more space in your chest,
More softness in your shoulders,
More ease in your breath.
You've let it go,
The river has taken it,
You don't need to carry it anymore,
In this moment,
In this space of release,
Let these words ripple through you gently,
I am held by life.
I am supported in ways I cannot always see.
Notice how that feels,
You don't need to believe it yet,
Just let it be here.
I trust the unfolding of my path.
Even when you can't see the way forward,
The river knows,
Life knows.
Let these words settle into you,
You don't need to do anything with them,
Just let them be.
Gently bring your awareness back to your breath now,
Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest,
The rhythm of life moving through you.
Feel the surface beneath you again,
The earth still holding you,
Steady and sure.
Know that this sense of calm,
Of grounding,
Of trust,
It's always within you.
Like the river,
It flows no matter what,
Even when you forget it's there.
Begin to deepen your breath just slightly,
Inviting a little more air in,
Releasing a little more fully.
Gently bringing your awareness back into the space that you're in,
Maybe finding a soft sway of your spine,
A gentle wiggle in your fingers.
Gentle movement in your toes,
There's no rush,
Slowly bringing small movement back into your body.
And when you feel ready,
Gently begin to open the curtain of your eyes,
Letting the outside world back in.
Take a moment to notice how you feel,
What's present in your body,
What's present in your heart.
Maybe thank yourself for showing up for this practice today,
For giving yourself permission to rest,
To release,
To trust.
May you carry this inner peace with you into your day,
Remembering that it is always available within you.
