I just want to start by saying well done for allowing yourself this time.
Take a moment to get comfortable.
You might be sitting in a chair,
Lying down or simply pausing wherever you are.
If it feels comfortable,
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and slowly breathe out through your mouth.
Let's do that again.
Breathing in slowly.
And breathing out gently.
One more time.
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm.
There is nowhere you need to go right now.
Nothing you need to achieve in this moment.
Just allow yourself this small pause.
Now bring your attention to your body.
Notice where your body is being supported right now.
Perhaps by the chair beneath you,
The bed or the floor.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Let your jaw relax.
Soften the muscles around your eyes.
Your body has been through something extraordinary.
Pregnancy,
Birth and now caring for a new life.
It's natural for emotions to feel strong or confusing during this time.
Many new mums experience waves of feelings.
Tiredness,
Tears,
Overwhelm or uncertainty.
If you are feeling any of these things,
Please know this is common.
And you are not alone.
Now gently bring one hand to your heart.
Or place a hand somewhere on your body that feels comforting.
Take a slow breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine sending a little softness to yourself.
You are adjusting to a huge change.
You are learning something new every single day.
And it's okay if it feels messy sometimes.
You don't have to have everything fixed.
You can always figure it out.
Now return your attention to your breathing.
Feel the gentle rhythm of your breath.
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
If your mind starts to wander,
That's completely okay.
Thoughts may appear about your baby.
About sleep.
And whether you're doing things right.
When you notice those thoughts,
Simply acknowledge them.
You might quietly say to yourself,
Thinking.
And then gently guide your attention back to your breath.
Now imagine a warm,
Soft light surrounding you.
This light represents kindness,
Support,
And understanding.
Allow it to gently wrap around your shoulders like a comforting blanket.
You don't have to carry everything on your own.
There are people who care about you.
There are people who want to support you.
And you deserve that support.
Now bring to mind the tiny human you brought into the world.
You don't have to picture them perfectly.
Just allow the feeling of their presence.
Notice that simply by being here.
By caring.
By trying.
You are already giving your baby something deeply important.
Your presence.
Your warmth.
Your love.
You do not need to be a perfect mother.
You only need to be a real one.
And being real means having hard days too.
Take a slow,
Deeper breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine releasing a little bit of pressure.
Let go of the idea that you must do everything perfectly.
Let go of comparing yourself to anyone else.
Each mother.
Each baby.
Each journey is different.
And yours is unfolding in its own way.
Now silently repeat these gentle words to yourself.
You might say them in your mind.
Or simply listen to them.
I am learning.
I am doing my best.
It's okay to have difficult moments.
I deserve to be loved.
I deserve kindness and support.
My baby and I are learning together.
Take a slow breath in.
And breathe out gently.
Now allow yourself a moment of stillness.
Just breathing.
Just being.
Just being.
Even if motions come and go,
Allow them to move like waves.
Rising.
And falling.
You don't need to push them away.
And you don't need to hold on to them.
Just let them pass through.
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Before we finish,
Take a moment to acknowledge yourself.
The care you are giving.
The effort you are making.
The love that exists even on the hardest days.
Becoming a mother is one of the biggest transitions.
And you are moving through it one moment at a time.
That is enough.
You are enough.
Now begin to bring a little awareness back into your body.
Notice the feeling of the surface beneath you.
Gently wiggle your fingers.
And your toes.
Take one more deep breath in.
And slowly breathe out.
When you feel ready,
Gently open your eyes.
And carry this small moment of gentleness with you as you continue your days.
You are not alone.
And you are doing so much better than you think.
