Caim - An Ancient Irish Encircling Prayer (With Music)

A prayer of protection from Graced Moments - A Soulful Pause, drawing on the ancient practice of the Caim, a prayer circle of protection, belonging and sacred presence. Find a quiet place outdoors, feel the earth beneath your feet, and pray the Caim with me. As you listen, begin to discover the words of your own inner Caim prayer, making this ancient practice your own - a way of calling upon the Sacred, remembering your connection with all life, and finding a place of peace and shelter within.
The sacred Gaelic chant Caim Agus Currach used in this recording is with the permission of Céile Dé, an esoteric Celtic path of spiritual awakening.

So pause me now while you find a place where you can pray this embodied form of the Kaim. Preferably outside in nature. Keeping your eyes open. Take a few conscious breaths while beginning to pay attention to all that you can take in with your senses. Notice what you can see. Taste. Feel, Smell. Here. Take a moment to try and identify the furthest away sound that you can hear. And welcome this sound into your circling prayer. Then take a moment to try and identify the closest sound that you can hear. And welcome this in as well. When you are ready then. Turn your body to face north. Bring your arm out in front of you. With your pointer finger outstretched. And as you say the prayer, You'll be turning your body in a clockwise circle from north to east to south. To west and ending at north again. Notice that as you rotate your body, Your outstretched arm is creating a circle that includes all that you can see. Facing North. Circle of Spirit. Where the roots run deep. Keep inner strength near. Keep self-doubt far. Facing East. Circle us, Spirit. Where the sunrise gleams. Keep trust near. Keep fear far. Facing south. Circle as Spirit. Under the sun's warm kiss. Keep growth near. Keep stagnation far. Facing West. Circle of Spirit. Where the waters flow. Keep wisdom near. Keep ignorance far. Ending the prayer then, Facing north. May you be the firm ground beneath us. May you be the protective canopy above us. May you be the comforting guide behind us. May you be the steady compass before us. Point us towards wholeness. Both now and forever. As you explore how you might bring this kind practice into your own routine. Connecting you with ancient tradition in a way that makes sense to you. I encourage you to be creative and playful. How would you like to encircle your body? Or create a circle of protection around another. Or a group. Or the whole of humanity, Or the whole of creation. Watch words. Might resonate with you as you invoke this protection, This peace, This connection. Good.
