
Moving Through Money Anxiety
This meditation invites you to observe financial concerns from a place of quiet presence, noticing how self-worth exists independent of financial circumstances. Through clear seeing and resting in what is, we'll explore how our relationship with money reflects deeper patterns of identity and freedom.

Hello there,
My friend.
Today's meditation is on money anxiety and we're going to work on how to get through it and to release some of that anxiety.
I'm no stranger to this energy.
My family are immigrants and they came to the United States with about $100 and my early childhood was full of money anxiety.
I know this energy well and even if you have a lot of money you might still have money anxiety.
Money is just a medium of exchange for goods and services.
Our survival depends on it.
Our physical well-being depends on it.
Some of us,
Our self-worth depends on it.
For better or worse,
It probably shouldn't.
For whatever reason you're experiencing money anxiety,
In this meditation we're going to sit with it allow it to arise,
Feel it,
Have some insight around it and instead of trying to fix it or solve it,
We're going to allow it to be,
Allow it to come up and maybe even shed some layers.
So when you're ready,
Go ahead and close your eyes.
Nothing like meditating on money.
Drop your shoulders.
Put a light smile on your face.
Look at that million-dollar smile.
Maybe breathe a little bit deeper and a little bit more slowly.
We often conflate our value with the amount of money that we have.
I want you to notice the value of who you are in this moment as a being has nothing to do with how much money you have or don't have.
So as you start to breathe a little bit more slowly and relax into this moment,
Just feeling that intrinsic value that you have as a being.
You have value because you exist.
And let's make some room for money anxiety to arise.
Usually it comes in the form of a looping thought,
Like I can't pay this bill or there's not enough.
Just notice that money anxiety in whatever form it takes.
Maybe it's just a generalized feeling.
Allow it to arise to the surface and almost like you've invited a friend over for tea.
Just let it be here and sit with you.
There's no need for any judgment towards it.
You might also notice some resistance that you have.
Nobody loves the feeling of anxiety around money.
But at the same time,
There's a reality here of how you feel and there's also some feedback.
This is what matters to you.
Whether you like it or not,
Here it is.
See if you can just honor your feelings and breathe into it.
There's a saying,
What gets measured gets managed.
And often around money,
We get emotional.
We don't have a handle on the actual numbers or plan or strategy to move things along.
So if you feel overly emotional about this,
Allow that energy to start to rise to the surface and move.
It's very natural.
And the way you do that is with a present neutral awareness and almost curiosity.
As you sit with money anxiety,
You might have a realization or an insight.
Like,
Oh,
Wow,
This came from my parents,
Or I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself.
It's hard to find a solution when we're caught in a loop of anxiety.
So as you sit here with me and start to relax,
Maybe there's a loosening of some of this tight energy.
You don't need to fix anything here.
Just be present with whatever's arising.
And there might be some insight with that.
And you can allow yourself to acknowledge that there's a gap between how you feel about your money space and how you want to feel about your money space.
And again,
Can you bring acceptance to that?
Not trying to fix it right now or solve it,
Just having the awareness.
There might be frustration there,
Resistance,
Pain,
Even sadness.
And the real secret to meditation and to transformation is the acceptance of reality and how we feel in the moment as it is without any judgment.
There's kind of an odd miracle that happens when you do that.
If you can really be patient,
Sometimes the energy starts to shift on its own.
The more we accept things as they are,
The more they tend to change for the better.
Just notice that money is a medium of exchange.
We all use it to move through the world.
It's not good.
It's not bad.
It's the intention that we have when we touch it,
When we earn it,
When we spend it,
When we share it.
And have you been using your money and interacting with your money with awareness and mindfulness?
Or have you been in resistance to it?
Oh,
You've been in resistance to it.
Okay.
Welcome to the club.
Again,
Light smile on your face,
Relaxing.
This meditation is not here to solve all your money problems in one sitting.
It's here to help you reorient your awareness and your attitude towards money and towards yourself.
Take another big,
Deep breath.
In my experience,
Meditation is paradoxically about accomplishing something by doing nothing.
So as you sit here and allow your feelings to be as they are,
As you allow your energy to open,
As you recognize your resistance to anxiety around money,
There's a natural healing that might occur,
A shifting,
An opening.
And if there's not,
Then that's great feedback that there's a lot of work to be done here.
You might have to sit and do this meditation a few more times.
Or a few more hundred times.
So before we finish here,
I want you to just have a sense of gratitude for yourself for sitting and for sitting with a difficult topic.
And my blessing to you is that you iron out your relationship with money and you have what you need.
And you have what you need.
You step into a sense of abundance.
And you deepen into an energy of creating for yourself and for others.

This made me feel a bit better. I have issues with compulsive spending and it's really nice to hear from someone who can relate. I also carry a lot of guilt and shame when it comes to money problems. I will listen to this definitely every day until payday but probably will keep this in my tool kit to help me in future too. Thank you!
