Welcome to Part 4 of the PTSD Breathing Reset Series.
So far,
You've been learning how to slow your breathing and begin calming the system.
Today we're going a step further.
We're going to begin training your body to feel safe again.
Your body is always learning from repetition.
Every breath you take is sending a message.
And over time,
These messages become patterns.
Today we're going to start reinforcing a new pattern.
As always,
There's no pushing here.
If anything feels uncomfortable,
You can return to normal breathing at any time.
You're in control throughout this entire process.
Settle into a comfortable position.
Gently close your mouth.
And breathe in and out through your nose.
Let your breathing be quiet,
Soft and easy.
There's nothing to force here.
Just noticing how your body is breathing right now.
Now begin to gently reduce the size of your breath.
Just slightly.
Almost as if your breathing is becoming more efficient,
More controlled.
You're not taking air away.
You're teaching your body that it doesn't need as much as it thinks.
Your body responds to what you repeatedly show it.
And right now,
You're showing it calm.
Now we'll introduce a gentle breath hold.
Take a normal breath in through your nose.
And a longer one out.
At the end of the exhale,
Gently hold your breath.
Just for a few seconds.
And then return to soft,
Easy breathing.
Keep doing this for me.
Each time you hold,
Keep your body relaxed.
Shoulders soft.
Face at ease.
There's no urgency here.
Just a quiet sense of control.
Even in this moment,
Your body is learning that it's safe.
You're not reacting anymore.
You're responding.
Return now to gentle nasal breathing.
Let your breath settle into a neutral rhythm.
Notice the difference.
Even if it's subtle,
Your system is already adjusting.
The more often you practice this,
The more familiar this state becomes.
And over time,
Your body begins to choose this more automatically.
You're not just calming your body,
You're retraining it.
Take one more slow breath in.
And a gentle breath out.
And when you're ready,
Bring your awareness back.
