What prevents us from being still? Often, it is not the world around us, but the constant movement within us: the habit of doing, thinking, planning, anticipating and seeking. We may feel there is always something to accomplish, something to solve, something to understand or something waiting to happen. Even stillness can become something we try to achieve. In this meditation, we explore the subtle distractions that can keep us moving away from the simplicity of being here. The desire for stimulation. The tendency to follow every thought. The discomfort of having nothing to do. The belief that something is missing. And beneath all of these, perhaps the deepest distraction of all: the assumption that stillness is somewhere we need to get to. What happens when we stop moving towards it? This session will support nervous system balancing, for it returns our awareness to what is causing the imbalances.
