Hello.
This meditation is called,
Anxiety,
A Gentle Return to Calm.
Now before we start,
Take a moment to be comfortable,
To sit and relax.
There is nothing you have to do,
All is as it is.
All that is being asked of you is to be quietly here in the moment.
To begin,
We'll ask you to quietly close your eyes and your mouth as you will be breathing in through your nose,
And begin to focus your awareness on the body,
The whole body,
Aware and how you are sitting,
Relaxed and comfortable.
Adjust until you are feeling comfortable,
And importantly,
In this space also feeling safe and supported.
And then quietly notice the space around you,
Familiar objects,
Photographs,
Furniture,
Windows,
Doors,
The light in the room,
The sense of the contact you are making with the ground,
Whether it's on the earth,
You may be sitting in the garden outside,
Or the carpet or the tiles,
And how does this feel to you,
What is this feeling of being in familiar surroundings,
The comfort and the safety you feel,
Letting the body quietly sense it's immediate surroundings,
What is the temperature,
Is there a breeze,
Is the area dull,
Brightly lit,
There may be candles,
Flowers,
All of your senses aware,
The body is receiving all these sensations,
Quietly observing,
Without judgement,
Or without wanting to be anywhere else,
There is no need to rush this quiet observing awareness,
Be still,
Relax the body,
You are here,
Present.
Now gently place your hands over your heart chakra,
Your heart centre,
Perhaps one hand over the other,
Feel this touch,
This sensation,
The senses being aroused when the hands are lightly placed over the heart,
What are the feelings of the skin on the garments you are wearing,
Or maybe your hands are gently touching your skin directly,
What can you sense,
Is there a warmth,
Can you feel the quiet rhythmical beat of the heart,
How does that make you feel,
Any emotions arising,
Quietly breathing,
Relaxed,
Open and aware,
Fully present in this experience of your hands over your heart,
Rest here for a moment,
Rest with this experience,
All is open and allowing,
Perhaps subtle energies can be felt,
A releasing,
An opening,
Whatever it is,
The body is fully aware,
Non-judgmental,
Quiet and allowing,
Now bringing your awareness to the breath itself,
Focusing gently on the awareness of your breathing,
There is nothing to control,
Just a quiet noticing,
The incoming breath,
And then the outgoing breath,
Is there a sense of expansion,
Of lightness,
Whatever you are experiencing,
Is perfect,
Be still,
Relaxed,
Nothing needs to be different to what it is,
Just allowing the breath to be exactly what it is and the senses to be just as they are,
You might begin to notice on another level within the body,
Any sensations that might be tight,
Restrictive,
Is there any sense of fear or anxiety,
Whatever it is,
You are quietly noticing it,
It is just there,
The breath is moving,
The body is rested,
Awareness is open,
The senses alive,
Whatever there is,
All is quietly witnessed in the silence of your awareness,
There is no need to push any feelings away,
There is no need to calm anything down,
Just be the gentle presence of allowing where all of this is felt,
And return to the feelings of your hands on your heart,
How is this feeling for you now,
The feeling in your hands,
The flow of your breath,
The sitting,
The relaxation,
And the support being offered to your body,
And your feelings of gratitude for this support,
This safety,
This quiet awareness,
And as the body is sensed,
As the breath is quietly noticed,
Something may begin to soften,
To loosen,
To feel a little bit more expansive,
More open,
Freer,
Not because you are trying to fix anything,
But because you are open,
Still,
Relaxed,
Just quietly acknowledging,
Quietly recognising what is here,
What is present within the body,
With no resistance,
For we will come to recognise that the body knows how to quietly settle into its own wisdom,
Quietness,
The body knows how to relax,
We just give it the space to do this in its own time,
In its own way,
And all of these movements,
All of these recognitions come and are supported by the quiet flow of our incoming and outgoing breath,
And within all these movements,
Sensations moving,
The breath flowing,
There is also something still,
A quiet space,
Aware,
And at peace,
Which is simply seeing all of that which is happening,
The anxiety or tension is seen,
The uncertainty is felt,
The doubts are known,
But these are not what you are,
These are simply surface disturbances,
Known for their finite appearance,
As they come and go,
As if each is a test,
A pointing,
So one recognises a deeper truth,
Known to the body's wisdom,
A timeless awareness,
Beyond the surface mind and its identity thinking,
A spaciousness of the true nature of one's boundless presence,
Open,
Allowing,
Wise,
Known,
All known to the body,
And just rest here,
With this gentle awareness that holds all,
Supported,
Held,
In this moment,
And you might sense a softening in the body,
A deepening of the breath,
A longer pause between the thoughts,
Calm doesn't need to be created,
It begins to reveal itself,
When nothing is being pushed away,
When one is still and open,
And as this meditation comes to a close,
Come back to gently feeling the body again,
The contact of where you are sitting,
The natural rhythm of the breath,
The feeling in the hands,
And the knowing that you can return here,
To this presence,
This awareness of the body,
And its calming,
Quiet stillness,
At any time,
By gently allowing what is here,
What is present,
To be here,
To be present,
And to always rest in the quiet awareness that holds this wisdom.
