Welcome to the reading of Blank Canvas,
A poem by Alicia Mott-Kamito.
This poem was published in Touchstone Literary Journal,
A publication of Stetson University,
In the year 2001.
I wrote this poem during a very transformative time in my life when I was experiencing a rebirth of sorts.
I trust that you have been led to this recording in perfect time in your life and that the reading of this piece will play a role in your transformation or your rebirth.
So here we go.
Blank canvas,
Paint me,
Fill me with your color of nothing.
Sticky,
Cold coating,
White molasses,
Breathing through my skin,
Absence surrounds my body.
Each stroke,
My figure drips with thick white paint.
My pores filling with liquid marshmallow.
Put down your brush and place your hands on me.
My being is covered with nothing.
Ghost fingerprints,
Glue on flesh,
Bodies like rolling pins,
Color missing.
The syrup glides over our bodies,
Crawling through puddles of thick white cream,
Splashing,
Sliding,
Our bodies shiver.
Breathe on me,
Your paint of white.
