Hello and welcome to Good Morning Med,

Short for Good Morning Meditation.

My name is Samantha Archibald of Psy Yoga and it's nice to be here this morning.

Let's take a nice deep breath in,

Exhale it out as you settle into your seat.

Now that seat can be on a chair,

On the floor,

On a nice bolster,

But wherever you decide to settle,

Make sure you're comfortable.

Make sure your spine is nice and long,

Your shoulders are relaxed.

As you again take a nice deep inhale and exhale it out through the mouth completely.

Soften again the shoulders down the back,

Allow the shoulders to stay nice and broad.

Feel the breath soften in the muscles around the eyebrows,

The jawline,

The neck.

And then seal your lips as you breathe in and out gently through the nostrils.

Notice what's happening around you.

Notice in first by listening to the sound the furthest away,

Like maybe the sound of an air conditioner or a car passing by in a distance.

Maybe it's a smell or a touch.

Just notice.

So as you notice with your eyes closed,

Your senses tune in.

Begin to tune in to what's happening right now.

It's like when someone loses sight or hearing.

We notice how automatically the other senses become more acute.

When we focus and bring attention to the moment with our eyes closed and our breath soft,

We discover the world we live in.

But in reality,

Our senses are like our breath.

Because regardless of whether we are conscious of their function,

They function nevertheless.

So therefore we pay little attention to our senses,

To our breath,

Until we feel a disruption,

A blockage in our breath,

In our sight,

In our hearing.

Then we pay attention.

So what if we paid more attention to our senses and became more in tune with what is right in front of us?

Would you then see the beauty of a rising sun?

Or would you allow yourself to listen to the ocean wave,

Feel a cool breeze,

And smell,

Mmm,

Smell fresh cooked bread right out of the oven?

Truly enjoy the taste of a home cooked meal.

So when we pay attention to our senses,

We become present to the here and now.

And we become a part to the beauty of the world that's right in front of us.

But most of us,

Most of us like our breath,

We don't pay attention to it.

We allow it to do what it does without engaging,

Without being present to the breath or to our senses.

Instead we move through life with blinders.

So in the middle of a traffic jam,

All we see are cars.

But could we look past that and see the blue sky?

Maybe even a passing bird.

Can we use our senses not just to get things done,

But to connect to the world and our family?

Can we connect to Mother Earth?

Can we look into our children's eyes or our partner's eyes and see the beauty and the love that lies within them?

Can we walk and feel our feet touch the ground and feel rooted and solid and stable?

Can we pay attention to how we feel when we move,

How our body feels now in this seat as we connect to our senses?

So our meditation is about bringing awareness.

And you might not feel steady,

Calm,

Relaxed at every moment of the day.

But when those feelings arise within you,

Can you go to a place from within?

Maybe close the eyes or maybe just take a moment to notice the breath,

Connect to your senses.

Draw yourself inwards because this practice,

This morning,

This meditation is that awareness.

The opportunity to bring yourself to an understanding through your senses,

Through your breath,

So that you can connect and create that calm,

That stillness.

And when you approach life through your senses,

When you open yourself up to your senses to see the beauty,

To see beyond the destruction,

To see beyond the fear,

The frustration,

We change and we shift the emotions.

And when we change our emotions from a place of worry and stress and fear to a place of calm and stillness,

We shift in the process of how we think and how we move through life.

So this meditation is just a reminder.

Connect to your senses.

Connect to the sense of sight,

Hear the sounds of children playing,

Feel on your skin the cool breeze.

Allow yourself to enjoy a juicy fruit.

Discover these moments where you become aware of all that life has to offer.

So take the time here,

Not just to quiet the mind,

Which we cannot do because the mind is outside of ourselves and it's a muscle that's meant to think.

And we can change our attention so we are not so wrapped up in the thoughts of what we need to do on a day to day,

But instead connect to ourselves from within our being.

And when we connect to that being through our senses,

Through our breath,

We bring the stillness and the joy into our world.

So allow yourself to see clearly,

Hear truly,

Smell fully,

Taste freely,

And feel completely.

Take the time,

Not just now,

But throughout the day to connect to your senses from a place from within your heart.

Have a beautiful,

Wonderful day.

Many blessings and namaste.
