Getting ready for Yoga Nidra,
Lying in savasana,
Making yourself as comfortable as possible.
Adjusting your blanket,
Your clothes,
Your position so that you can practice Yoga Nidra without moving and with no physical discomfort.
Please close your eyes and keep them closed.
The practice of Yoga Nidra is the act of hearing and the act of feeling.
These are the only important factors.
In Yoga Nidra you function on the level of awareness plus the level of listening.
In dreams you have no control.
In Yoga Nidra you are the creator of the dream.
Saying silently to yourself,
I will not sleep.
I shall only listen to the voice.
I will not sleep.
Giving yourself some time to become calm and steady.
Take a deep breath,
As you breathe in feel calmness spreading throughout your body.
As you are breathing out,
Saying silently to yourself,
Relax.
Becoming aware of sounds in the distance.
Become aware of the most distant sounds that you can hear.
Let your sense of hearing operate like a radar beam,
Searching out distant sounds and following them for just a few moments.
Moving your awareness from sound to sound without attempting to identify the source.
Gradually bringing your awareness to closer sounds.
Sounds outside the room you're in to sounds inside the room you're in.
Now develop your awareness of this room without opening your eyes.
Visualise the walls,
The ceiling,
The floor,
Your body lying on the floor.
See your body lying on the floor.
Becoming aware of the existence of your physical body lying on the floor.
Total awareness of your body lying in perfect stillness.
Your body is lying on the floor.
Develop your awareness of all the physical meeting points between your body and the floor.
Becoming aware of your natural breath.
Becoming aware of the deep,
Natural,
Spontaneous breath.
Do not concentrate for this will just interfere with the natural process.
Keep on listening to me knowing that you're breathing.
The practice of Yoga Nidra begins now.
Saying silently to yourself,
I am going to practice Yoga Nidra.
I will not sleep.
I am going to practice Yoga Nidra.
Now is the time to make your intention a resolve,
A San Calpa.
This can be a simple intention,
A simple resolve.
Please state your intention clearly with feeling and awareness three times in the present tense as though it's already part of your being.
Rotating your awareness now through the different centres of your body.
As quickly as possible your awareness has to jump from point to point.
Please repeat silently to yourself the name of each part after me so you're simultaneously becoming aware of that part of your body.
The practice always begins with the right hand thumb.

Withdrawing your mind and concentrate on the space you see in front of your closed eyes.
Imagine before you a transparent screen through which you can see infinite space,
A space that extends as far as the eyes can see.
Concentrate on this dark space and become aware of any phenomena that manifests within it.
Whatever you see is the manifesting state of your mind.
Continue your awareness of this space but do not become involved as you practise detached awareness only.
You are lying in your warm,
Soft,
Comfortable bed.
You feel like you could stay here forever but there's a sparkle inside of you nudging you to move,
To explore,
To sow seeds of adventures yet to come.
A glimmer of light catches the corner of your eye.
Your body tingles with excitement as you realise the light is coming from your wardrobe.
You pull off the covers,
Placing your feet on the floor,
Your eyes watching the glimmer of light as it grows stronger and brighter.
Standing up,
You walk towards the door,
Slowly at first but picking up the pace,
Eager to see what awaits.
You are bathed in light as you open the door and it takes your eyes a few moments to adjust but you feel a sense of calm fill you up.
Unsure of what you'll find,
Allow your intuition to guide you as you step into the wardrobe.
The light is the sun dazzling your eyes as it glistens off snow covering all that you can see.
The ground,
Trees,
A lake and distant mountains.
You shiver at the sight of so much snow but you don't feel cold.
The sun warms you just as though you are still in your warm,
Soft,
Comfortable bed.
It is completely calm here in this snowy wonderland.
There's nowhere to go,
No expectations of you.
You can simply pause,
Taking in the beauty of winter,
The stillness you see before you.
Exploring the woodland,
Walking in the snow,
You come across a small clearing.
Here a log fire burns and thick blankets and cushions cover the ground inviting you to take a seat.
You spot a journal and pen,
Picking them up,
Open the journal and start to write down your goals for the coming year,
The adventures you plan to experience.
Again,
Prayer andholder guidance.
When you are done,
Tear out the pages,
Folding them in half and half again.
Using your hands,
Start to dig through the snow,
Down to the earth below.
Placing in your pages of goals,
Dreams,
Desires,
Adventures yet to come,
Like you are planting seeds.
With great care and ease,
Cover the paper with earth and then the snow as you release them into the universe.
Bring your awareness back to the dark space you see in front of your closed eyes.
This space can also be visualised in front of the forehead.
So if you wish to explore it a little,
You can shift your gaze slightly upwards,
But do not strain.
Watching the darkness that you see before you very carefully with detachment,
Do not become involved.
Rest your mind in this warm and friendly darkness.
If any subtle phenomenon manifests,
Such as colours or patterns,
Simply take note of these and continue with your awareness.
If thoughts occur,
Let them come and go.
But continue watching the dark space.
Continue this with detached awareness.
Now remember your resolve,
Your intention,
Your Sancoppa,
Repeating the same intention you made at the beginning of the practice.
Repeating your intention now three times clearly,
Using the same words you used.
Repeating your intention now with feeling and emphasis.
Becoming aware of your breathing,
Becoming aware of your natural breath,
Awareness of breathing,
Awareness of relaxation.
Becoming aware of your physical existence.
So you become aware of your arms,
Your legs,
Your body lying stretched out on the floor.
Become aware of the meeting points between your body and the floor.
Develop awareness of the room you're in,
The walls,
The ceiling,
Sounds inside the room to sounds outside.
Taking your mind out,
Becoming completely external.
Lying quietly for a few more moments,
Keeping your eyes closed.
As you feel ready,
Start to invite movement into your body as you wiggle the fingers,
The toes,
Gently stretching your arms,
Your legs.
And when you are sure that you're wide awake,
Slowly finding your way up to sitting,
Opening your eyes,
The practice of Yoga Nidra is now complete.
