Hello everyone,
Welcome,
My name is Chatner,
Glad you're here.
I wanted to record a meditation today and I titled it Pocketful of Happiness.
And this meditation is inspired by the actor Richard E.
Grant and his memoir,
Which was recently published,
Called A Pocketful of Happiness.
Richard E.
Grant is an actor,
An Academy Award nominated,
And best known for his role in the 1987 film Widnall and I.
The book he's written is his memoir about finding happiness in even the darkest of days.
He was married to Joan Washington,
A renowned dialect coach.
And when Joan died in 2021,
Her final challenge to him was to find a pocketful of happiness in every day.
And it was to take each day and to live it.
Giving you strength.
And recently in an interview,
He said that this mantra of take each day and live it has been really sort of powerful to him.
And also,
Hopefully this meditation meets you where you want it,
And hoping that you find a pocketful of happiness in each day.
So here we go.
So as you become comfortable in whatever position that feels good to you,
Just close your eyes and just begin to breathe consciously,
Noticing each inhale and each exhale.
And allow a sense of calmness to begin to wash through you.
Let any noise,
Any other distractions become distant and quiet.
Allowing the sound of your inhale and exhale to be amplified.
Feeling the warmth of the air as you breathe in and breathe out.
Allowing your body to feel less tense.
As your conscious breath eases you.
And allowing that breath to fall into a smooth rhythmic flow.
We begin our journey.
You put on your walking boots.
You put on your walking boots.
You lace them up.
You slip on your coat with deep,
Empty pockets.
They engulf your whole hand.
You feel warm.
You feel comforted.
As a coat wraps around you.
You step through the door and see a single path lined with trees.
You take a deep inhale as you step through.
You begin to walk.
You step in sync with each inhale and exhale.
The path feels firm under your boots.
You walk.
Your shoulders relax.
Your senses are alive.
You feel the coolness of the air.
As a tree canopy block the warmth of the sun.
You feel warm.
You feel protected.
As a coat wraps around you.
With a big coat wrapping around you.
You feel the comfort of the coat.
You breathe in and smell the scent of the earth.
The earthy smell.
That brings memories.
The scent of the earth.
After a heavy rain.
You capture the scent and place it in your pocket.
You continue to walk.
Your mind drifting.
Your thoughts float in,
Float out.
You're not distracted by them.
You're holding no judgement.
No attachment.
You feel each step.
You feel each step.
You feel each breath.
The path changes into a lush green carpet of grass.
It feels like you're walking on cotton wool.
There is a lightness in your step.
You notice rays of sunlight coming through the tree branches.
You see the shadows dancing on the grassy path.
You feel the kiss of the sun rays on your face.
You reach your hand out.
Capturing the warmth of the sun.
And you place it in your pocket.
The warmth of the sun seeps into you.
You feel it wrapping around you.
You feel protected.
You feel safe.
You feel supported.
You feel supported.
You continue walking.
Hearing the distant singing of birds.
The bird song brings a smile to your face.
You capture the song.
And place it in your pocket.
You continue on your walk.
Absorbing what surrounds you.
You feel the path change to stones.
The stones are of various sizes.
You look down.
You see each stone,
Each pebble,
Of varying shades.
And as you look deeper,
You notice each and every one of them is heart-shaped.
You feel the love.
You bend down.
And you pick up a stone.
You see the light of the sun change the colour.
The stone feels warm to your touch.
You gently place it in your pocket.
You breathe.
You continue to walk.
You inhale.
You exhale.
You see a field of roses in front of you.
The scent is powerful.
You take a deep breath in.
Letting the scent flow through you.
The roses are colourful.
You scoop up the scent and place it in your pocket.
Your eyes are mesmerised by the colourful landscape.
You breathe.
You feel joy within.
The muscles in your face relax.
You allow a sense of calmness to wash over you.
You look up.
You see your door in front of you.
You open your door.
You inhale as you cross the threshold.
Exhaling as you step into your home.
You breathe.
You inhale as you step into your home.
You unlace your boots.
You remove them.
You feel your feet grounding you.
You put your hands into your coat pocket.
And remove the contents from your walk onto the kitchen table.
You remove the smell,
The scent of the earth.
You feel the warmth of the sun on your face.
You hear the calming sounds of the birds singing.
You see the hard-shaped stone.
And you feel the love that surrounds you.
Your pocket full of happiness for today surrounds you,
Holds you.
Brings a smile to your face.
You inhale.
You inhale.
You exhale.
Your senses are alive.
Pocket full of happiness on your kitchen table.
You take it through your day.
Namaste.
