'Metta' or 'Loving-kindness meditation' (LKM) comes from the Buddhist tradition. It aims to cultivate unconditional kind attitudes toward oneself and others by enabling us to recognise the universality of suffering, which we all experience at times. This awareness can help with feelings of fear and anger and may lead to the development of a more compassionate approach toward ourselves, as well as those around us.

Metta meditation,

Loving kindness meditation.

Be conscious of your struggles,

Knowing the natural difficulties you have.

It's normal to have difficulties,

We all have them and with a sincere well wish say to yourself,

May I be happy and peaceful,

Healthy and at ease.

May I be able to take care of myself joyfully.

May I possess the patience,

Courage,

Wisdom and determination to meet the challenges of my life.

Please send yourself this well wish.

Know focus on someone who you respect,

Realizing that even if you are not conscious of it,

This person who you look up to also has trials and tribulations because it is part of being human.

With sincere well wishing,

Send this person you respect Metta saying,

May this person I respect be happy and peaceful,

Healthy and at ease.

May this person I respect be able to take care of themselves joyfully.

May this person I respect possess the patience,

Courage,

Wisdom and determination to meet the challenges of their life.

Really send them this well wish.

And know focusing on a neutral person,

Realizing that even if you are not conscious of it,

This neutral person also has trials and tribulations because it is part of being human.

With sincere well wishing,

Send this neutral person respect Metta saying,

May this neutral person be happy and peaceful,

Healthy and at ease.

May this neutral person be able to take care of themselves joyfully.

May this neutral person possess the patience,

Courage,

Wisdom and determination to meet the challenges of their life.

Really send them this well wish.

Now to all beings,

Know that all beings suffer and struggle just as you did and the others.

Take a moment to imagine the suffering of all beings and with deep Metta send out a well wish saying,

May all beings be happy and peaceful,

Healthy and at ease.

May all beings be able to take care of themselves joyfully.

May all beings possess the patience,

Courage,

Wisdom and determination to meet the difficulties of their lives.

Really send all beings this well wish.

And now returning to yourself,

Realizing like you,

All beings suffer and seeing this natural thread between yourself and others.

Returning to yourself,

May I be happy and peaceful,

Healthy and at ease.

May I be able to take care of myself joyfully.

May I possess the patience,

Courage,

Wisdom and determination to meet the challenges of my life.

Making yourself better.

Veena, this is one of my favorite metta meditations. So clear and to the point. I have one request: would you record a version that has enough of a pause between each phrase for the listener to repeat the phrase before you start the next one? Thanks again for this wonderful meditation.
