This is part four in this yoga nidra series for purifying the five elements, which leads you deeper inwards from gross to subtle.
Transcript
Take this time to prepare for yoga nidra by returning your awareness to your body.
Slow down and take your time.
Just focus on your body now as you lie down on your back,
Making any final adjustments.
Even as you move and prepare for this session,
You can remain centered within your body,
Trusting it to now know how to become most comfortable.
Become sensitive to the body and to the sensation of touch.
Feel the pleasant sensations of air on your skin and the subtle points of contact with the ground.
Feel all the points of contact together at once.
Now focus on one point to the exclusion of all the others.
Take a deep breath in and as you exhale,
Feel all tension leaving your body and draining down into the earth through this point of contact.
Now return your awareness to the body.
Breathe in consciously and exhale as you release all the muscles in the right leg.
Exhale fully and exhale as you release the left leg.
Breathe in and release the right arm.
Breathe in,
Release the left arm.
Take a deep breath in and briefly pause at the top of the inhalation.
Then exhale and release all the muscles in the abdomen,
Chest and shoulders.
Exhale with awareness of the muscles in the back.
Exhale consciously releasing.
Breathe in with awareness to the muscles of the face and exhale allowing every muscle to become soft and supple.
And continue conscious breathing with total awareness of the whole body.
Feeling a detached witness of the body and the breath as you become increasingly more aware to your inner state of being.
Perceive your thoughts as if from outside yourself,
From the perspective of a silent witness.
You are not your thoughts.
Within the gap between two thoughts there is perfect stillness and perfect silence.
Within mental silence there is perfect peace and the absolute bliss of eternal energy and consciousness.
Now formulate your sankalpa,
Your intention for doing this practice.
Or you can say the following three times.
I am now expanding my awareness into the element of air.
Now return your awareness to the body.
Feel the body and all the sensations on the surface of your skin.
Feel the air on the palms of your hands as well as the soles of your feet.
Feel the lines on the palms of your hands.
Bring your awareness to the face and feel the line of contact between the eyelids.
The line of contact between the lips.
Tighten your sensitivity to these subtle lines of contact within your face.
Turn your awareness to the right hand and just take this moment to really feel the right hand as it is right now.
Feel the presence of the mental focus at the right hand thumb.
Feel the magnetic effect of your mental focus on the right hand thumb.
As your focus moves from body part to body part,
So does the sensation of magnetism which flows with the mind.

The whole back,
Both the front and back sides together,
The shoulders,
Neck,
Face,
And head.
The whole body together.
Become aware to the whole body together at once as one single unit.
Observe your body breathing.
Your body is pulling the breath in and releasing it back out.
The breath is universal energy.
There is an unlimited sea of vital power which your breath is pulling in with the inhalation and letting back out with the exhalation.
Feel that you are drawing in cosmic energy with every breath.
As the breath becomes deeper and slower,
It is also becoming more powerful.
You are connected through the breath to the infinite power of the universe.
This breath is neither yours nor mine,
But we share in this cosmic power which creates,
Sustains and reabsorbs the entire universe.
Remain aware.
See your focus on each breath like you are watching the waves of the sea rolling up and back down the beach.
Keep within yourself two videos and enjoy!
Now,
Drop breath awareness and become aware to inner space.
Become aware to the space occupied by the body.
Within inner space,
Become aware to the element of air.
The sensation for the air element is touch.
Become aware to the sensation of touch.
The touch of your clothing against your skin.
The sensation of air on your hands.
Imagine you are petting a cat.
Feel the smooth,
Silky fur of the cat.
Now imagine that you are petting a dog.
Feel the different texture,
The rough,
Wavy fur of the dog.
Recreate the experience of touching a cow,
A bird,
A reptile.
Be aware of the different textures,
The difference in temperature,
And other sensations created by each animal.
Feel the touch of a fish.
Create the feeling of cold.
Cold air touching the skin,
Creating goosebumps.
Change to the feeling of heat.
Feel hot air touching the skin.
Feel the intimate touch of a loved one.
The feeling of skin touching skin.
The touch of a friend.
The touch of your partner.
Now recreate the experience of wearing tight jeans.
Silk cloth.
Velvet.
A wire brush.
A cast iron pot.
A woolen blanket.
Keep the awareness moving,
Developing awareness to the softness.
Hardness.
Coolness or warmth of each object.
Imagine that you are reaching out and touching the petals of a flower.
Sand.
Granite stone.
An apple.
An orange.
The leaf of a tree.
The moist,
Rich earth.
An ant bite.
The sting of a bee.
A mosquito bite.
A pinch.
A slap.
Feel the sharpness and pain that these sensations create.
The sensation of biting.
Tickling.
Itching.
Dampness.
Dryness.
Imagine yourself walking barefoot through the snow.
Feel the cold,
Crunchy feeling of snow under your feet.
Imagine yourself walking barefoot on wet grass.
Feel the coolness and softness of the wet grass.
Walking barefoot on sharp stones.
Walking barefoot over smooth river stones.
Walking barefoot on a cold marble floor.
Walking barefoot over the hot sands of the beach.
Walking in the cool waves of the ocean.
Be aware to the sea breeze,
Gently blowing across the skin of your face and through your hair.
Allow all these sensations to now fade and become aware to the space all around you.
And become aware to a gentle breeze blowing all around you.
Feel the wind touching your skin.
The wind is blowing stronger.
Feel the wind blowing all around you,
Filling up the whole space.
Feel the wind on your back against the front of your body.
Feel the wind above you and below you.
There is nothing but wind all around you.
The wind is emptying your body of weight.
You are becoming weightless,
Effortlessly being carried away by the wind.
There is no difference now between you and the wind.
Feel yourself being blown in every direction.
There is nothing holding you back.
Breathing freely with the wind.
Breathing freely with the wind.
Re-experience the touch of the wind.
Slowly allow this feeling to dissipate into inner space.
And there visualize a blue lotus.
A sky blue lotus.
Allow the lotus to fade.
And within inner space,
See two interlacing triangles,
One pointing upward and the other pointing downward.
In the center of these interlacing triangles is the shape of a hexagon.
Allow the hexagon to fade and in the darkness of inner space,
Become aware of a tiny flame of light.
A tiny unwavering flame burning in the darkness.
The flame of the self,
Atma Jyoti,
Is steady and unflickering.
Allow this image to fade into inner space.
And within this darkness,
Visualize Vayudeva,
Also known as Marut,
The god of wind.
Vayudeva is blue in color,
Which represents the infinite.
He is as fast as thought.
His vehicle is the antelope.
In one hand,
He holds a fan,
Representing his constant creation of the wind element.
He possesses the power of healing.
He holds a saber,
Denoting his energy and acuteness.
Make this mental image of Vayudeva and be aware of his constant flowing movement.
Vayu,
Air,
Pervades all things.
Perceive the air element pervading everything.
Vayudeva.
Continue expanding your awareness into the air element.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Vayudeva.
Now,
Again,
Recall your sankalpa,
Or the same affirmation from earlier,
And repeat it three times,
With enthusiasm.
Now,
Return the focus to your body.
The five senses and the waking state of mind.
Create a mental image of your surroundings and of your body lying in shavasana.
Feel the subtle sensations of air and clothing on your skin.
And whenever you are ready,
Take a deep breath in and sigh out loud,
Stretching and opening your eyes to end this session.
The practice of yoga nidra is now complete.
Om shanti shanti shanti.
Hari om.
Vayudeva.
