Since just turning 62 a few weeks ago,

I've been reflecting over my life.

I hope I still have plenty of life left in me.

But I got to thinking about how fast life seems to go by after seeing a clip of the musical Dirty Dancing.

I still love that movie 35 years on and I still think it's one of the best.

Patrick Swayze was so cool and sexy and made the part of Johnny his own.

I must have seen that movie a hundred times if not more and,

Like many of us,

Tried to do the different dances,

Especially the end dance.

But sadly Patrick Swayze is no longer with us and now on stage someone else is playing Johnny.

Someone young and good looking,

Just like Patrick was back in the day.

Now this got me thinking about how age can rule our thoughts in life.

Hello,

My name is Jacqueline and welcome to my Tranquil Spirits podcast.

When we were children in single digits,

We were proud to be 4,

5,

6 or even 7.

And how many of you remember adding on the half or the three quarters?

Then we became teenagers and we couldn't wait to be older.

When we were 15 we would say,

I'm nearly 16,

Even if we still had eight months to go.

In our 20s that wasn't too bad,

But we couldn't wait for the next birthday to be a little older,

More sophisticated,

More adult.

Back then we would look at older people,

Those in their 50s,

And think they were really old.

And if they were in their 70s,

Well,

We couldn't even imagine being their age.

But the years tick by quicker than we think and I remember having my 30th birthday and hating it.

I was 29 in 12 months for a whole year.

I just couldn't bring myself to say 30.

And other people dread their 40th or 50th birthdays coming up.

But sadly,

As we know,

Many people don't ever reach old bones.

Some don't make it into adulthood.

And so we should be thankful we have a birthday each year as they really are something to be celebrated.

So on reflection,

Throughout all of our years on this earth,

The best thing we could do is to live our best life and not worry about our age,

Just enjoy life.

What does it really matter what age we are as long as we are living our best life?

As I look back over my 62 years,

I realize that I have more years behind me than I do have in front of me.

So I am going to live each day,

Not worrying that I will be 70 in eight years time.

Time stands still for no man or woman.

If you want to do it,

Go ahead and do it.

Age has nothing to do with anything.

It's how you feel in your mind and body that really matters.

I remember thinking when I was younger,

Oh,

I'll do so and so when I'm older.

I just don't have time to do it now.

But time moves on.

Now we think we're too old to do certain things.

But are we really too old?

Or is it just what we have been led to believe,

That we can't do certain things when we get past a certain age?

If age rules your life and there are things you think or are told that you can no longer do because you're too old,

Change your thoughts.

You can do anything if you truly want to.

I don't want to end my days with any regrets.

And I certainly don't want to think that my age stood in the way of me doing things.

None of us know exactly how long we have on this earth.

So live each day doing something new.

Push your boundaries.

Do something that gets your heart pounding.

Start that course you've wanted to do for years.

Take that holiday you've been dreaming of since you were 20,

But back then you had no money.

This is your life and no one else's.

Live each day as if it's your last.

I know at 62 I can't do everything like I did at 21 or even 41.

But I can adapt and do things in a different way.

I've just learned to create stained glass pieces and I'm back playing table tennis 40 years after my last game.

I do aerobics a couple of mornings a week,

But I'm not as flexible as I used to be.

And I don't look as graceful as I did 20 years ago.

But I've adapted and found a way for it to work for me.

When I was younger,

I used to worry about what I looked like to others.

And sometimes that stopped me doing things,

But not anymore.

I do my best at whatever I do and I'll give most things a try.

Well,

Maybe not bungee jumping.

I do draw the line there.

But if by sharing these thoughts with you,

I can inspire others to do something they've only ever dreamt about before,

Then that makes me happy.

So instead of allowing age to determine what we should be doing,

Let's get out and do things and become more active.

Let's find that way to achieve our hopes and dreams.

And while we're at it,

Let's encourage others to live their best life,

Too.

So whatever age you are right now,

Know that you are the right age to do whatever you want to do.

So what new things are you going to start doing today?

Whatever it is,

Enjoy it and have the best day.

Thanks for listening.

I hope you have found something useful in this podcast.

You can share your thoughts with me by going to my website,

You deserve it.

And remember,

Always follow that dream.

Bye for now.

Makes you think. I'm 65. Just a number. When I set out on activities I don't let that number define me.

At 74 and a half! Lol! I am living each moment to the fullest! I teach a water aerobics class twice a week and try to inspire others to keep moving and love the life that is ours. I hike, kayak, paint, write, hunt mushrooms, whatever comes across my path, I do. Spent the last two summers in Finland. What a grand time I had. It’s never to late to live life.

Thank you. I needed to hear this today. I'm also 62 and think I've been worrying about it too much.. I'm going to commit to making each day the best it can be.
