There are moments,
Moments that greet us on a Monday morning,
Or when great change has entered our life.
When a kind of weight falls across our chest and over our throats.
We think it's a feeling of sadness,
But sadness fills space.
This feeling does not.
It's this sense of being alone,
This emptiness inside,
Where we feel like the last human on earth,
With nobody around to understand,
To help,
To just be with.
It feels so incredibly lonely.
When we feel this way,
We must remember days like this happen,
Not just to us,
But to everyone.
And instead of falling into this black hole of emptiness,
We can remind our tender selves that we are never alone.
That all the love we've ever received,
It still lives inside of us.
Whether that love came from someone who now isn't even in our life,
Or even living at all.
Love can never go away.
It lives in our cells,
In our tissues,
In our minds,
On our path.
The love we have gotten from parents and siblings and aunts,
Uncles,
Cousins,
Grandparents,
Teachers,
Friends,
Neighbors,
Lovers,
Past and current,
Imperfect and unconditional.
It's all there.
It cannot escape.
Only be forgotten at times.
So,
If you're having a moment where lonely is the only word to describe,
Think of someone who has loved you well.
Let it be simple.
Let yourself capture a moment in time as a child,
Or teen,
Or adult.
Remember the look on that person's face,
The twinkle in their eye,
Their words,
Or lack thereof,
When they saw you and how you felt around them.
Call in this person.
Let them sit with you here.
And as you move forward in your day today,
Hold on to this love.
Remind yourself of its permanence inside of you.
