Hello new mama,
You have waited so long for these moments,
These beginning days,
The days when your child is here,
Safe in your arms,
Finally.
You are cracked open,
Your heart lives on the outside now,
Vulnerable and raw.
This love is incredibly overwhelming and can fill you with too many thoughts and emotions for one person to hold.
Yet you hold them all.
As you sit here,
Your body may be healing from birth,
Your mind may be in a dizzy state,
Exhausted and wired and taking in all there is to learn.
Your baby may be whimpering or crying or sleeping on top of you.
Your breasts may be leaking,
Maybe your eyes too.
And yet,
With all of this happening,
You sit here,
Taking a moment for yourself to breathe,
To roll your shoulders back,
To rest your eyes,
To relax your face,
Your jaw,
Your neck,
Your hips,
To let the tears roll down your cheeks,
To let a soft smile curl your lips.
Creating space in your lungs to breathe a bit wider into your ribs,
Your back,
Creating space inside,
A gift for you when all you do right now is give yourself.
Right here,
Taking this moment,
Allowing all the emotions,
Thoughts,
Physical sensations,
Allowing it all to be here,
Exactly as it is,
Without judgment or wishing away or clinging onto,
Letting it rest,
Letting it all be okay.
Just for a moment,
When mother returns to self.
