Dear friends,
You'll be glad to know that this is a meditation about doing nothing.
I'd like you to experience the joy of simple relaxation.
So welcome aboard your journey into peace and calm.
To begin,
Please make sure that you're sitting comfortably.
Feet on the floor,
Representing your connection with the good earth that gives us life.
Allow yourself to sink into your seat or cushion,
Aided by the invisible magic of gravity.
Your back reasonably straight,
Representing present moment awareness.
Your eyes gently closed or your gaze fixed downward,
As you prepare for the journey within.
And above all,
Relax.
Simply relax.
Take a deep breath in,
A gift from the atmosphere of the wonderful planet earth that is the home of all of us.
Hold for a second of awareness.
And then return the breath to this amazing recirculation system that keeps us all alive.
What a wonder.
Another mindful breath in,
Aware that you're breathing in.
Hold for another second of grateful appreciation and then release.
And now,
Just enjoy breathing normally.
Nothing to do except be present.
Relax your shoulders.
Allow gravity to support you as you enjoy the gift of being.
Of being here,
Alive,
Aware.
This extraordinary gift that is your unique existence.
Your existence in this moment has been in the making since the beginning of time.
So settle back,
Chill and enjoy.
I will offer an occasional word,
Just to remind you of the simple happiness of just being.
The relaxed feeling that comes from allowing everything to look after itself for a little while.
So welcome to the journey within.
Experience the calm voyage.
And when this meditation ends,
The music will continue for another five minutes,
Just to allow you to bask in another period of relaxation,
If you wish.
So now,
Allow your mind to settle.
Relax as if you are gently floating on the surface of a calm lake.
Relax even more.
Imagine yourself as that calm lake.
Perfectly still,
Utterly calm and peaceful.
Take it perfectly easy.
Allow the stillness of this moment to wash over you like a warm wave of comfort.
Let go and allow yourself to simply be.
Imagine any thoughts as clouds floating by,
Or as leaves floating by on a slow moving stream.
Let them float by unattended.
They are all part of the beautifully relaxed scene.
Resolve to go placidly amid the noise and haste of the world.
Remembering that you are the child of the universe,
And no less than the trees and the stars,
You have a right to be here,
Enjoying this present moment.
I will leave you now undisturbed for one final minute,
Just another 60 seconds,
Before bringing the formal part of this meditation to an end.
Welcome back.
May the peace of these few minutes together act like ripples on the still lake of your imagination.
May they radiate out from this time and place,
Bringing your peace and happiness out into the wider world.
May you enjoy peace.
May you experience happiness.
May your joys be many,
May your troubles be few.
