Find a comfortable seat.
This can be on a cushion or a chair.
Let it be one that allows your spine to be long and erect but not stiff.
So sit up tall and close your eyes.
Then begin by noticing your breath.
Take note of the way in which the prana or energy is flowing in and out of the body.
Start to deepen that breath.
Inhale deeply and fill the lungs.
And then exhale slowly allowing the air to flow out of the body.
Next draw your attention to the base of your spine at your perineum or the tailbone area.
Feel the weight of your body resting on your root.
This is the Mooladhara chakra.
Imagine this area taking in nourishing energy from the earth.
As you take a deep breath,
Perhaps visualize the color red and feel the earth supporting you.
As if the great mother was holding you and supporting your existence in the here and now.
When you are ready,
Move your awareness to your sacral plate,
The area around your hips and your pelvis.
This is just below the navel,
The foundation of your creativity and your emotional intelligence.
It is called the Svadhisthana chakra.
Breathe into this area and feel it expand like waves on a rolling river.
Visualize the color orange and allow the water to nurture you.
Then see both the red and orange colors and feel their support and nourishment.
Now move your awareness just above the navel to your solar plexus,
The Manipura chakra.
Take a breath into this area and imagine it filling with fire.
Visualize the color of bright yellow like sunshine.
Like the sun nourishes our planet,
Feel it supporting you,
Your power center.
Feel it offering you the power to serve others and help and nurture yourself.
Now see the red,
Orange and yellow colors.
Connect to the nourishment and strength of them all.
Now bring your awareness to the area around your heart,
The chakra of compassion,
Empathy and unconditional love,
Also known as the Anahata chakra.
Take a deep breath and breathe into the heart space,
Allowing the air to flow gently and allow that air,
That very fresh air to rejuvenate you.
Visualize the color green like the color of spring.
Feel your heart expanding and sending unconditional love,
Loving kindness to all beings.
See all four colors,
Red,
Orange,
Yellow and green and feel the support,
Nourishment,
Strength and love.
Now move to the throat,
The Vishuddha chakra of self-expression and truthfulness.
Breathe into the throat area,
Sending vibrations out into the universe on the exhale.
Visualize the color of pale blue and feel it clearing and freeing your ability to speak your truth.
See the five colors now,
Again allowing them to support,
Nourish,
Offer strength,
Love and truth.
When you are ready,
Move the awareness to between your eyebrows,
Your third eye center or the Ajna chakra.
This is the space and place of intuition.
Visualize a deep indigo purple color,
Bringing you to greater insight.
Notice in the awareness of the six colors now,
Red,
Orange,
Yellow,
Green,
Blue and indigo purple.
Move to the Sahaswara chakra at the crown of your head,
Your connection with consciousness,
The divine.
Breathe into the chakra and feel it opening to the sky.
Visualize a white light and see all seven colors red,
Orange,
Yellow,
Green,
Blue,
Purple,
Indigo and white.
Feel the support,
Nourishment,
Strength,
Love,
Truth,
Insight and the divine.
Allow the colors to merge into the white light and then let it cascade down the entire body.
Let it surround your entire being.
Then reconnect with your breath,
The sensations of the inhalation and the exhalation.
Once again,
Noticing the pranic energy.
And then when you are ready,
Open your eyes.
