Morning,
Afternoon,
Evening.
So we're going to do some body awareness this morning,
Along with a short mountain meditation.
But first I just want to illustrate.
How we experience the body.
So what are you likely to do?
So take your attention to y'all.
Take your attention to your right foot.
And I'd like you to think about your right foot.
Let's really think about it.
Okay,
So that's not how we're doing it.
We're not thinking about.
The right foot.
So now what I'd like you to do,
I'd like you to.
.
.
Close your eyes and imagine.
Your right foot.
The toenails,
The space between the toes.
The shape of the photocolour.
Okay.
That's not it either.
So we're not thinking about the foot.
Were not imagined in the foot.
So we're never doing those.
Except if it's a loving-kindness which we use the imagination.
For useful purposes.
But when we're experiencing the moment,
The body,
We're just experiencing it.
Now I'd like you to take your attention to your right foot.
Just feel it.
Not the image you have.
Just feel it.
Now if you've got.
A toenail that's bruised,
You're in the imagination,
Or you're thinking.
You've got gaps between the toes.
We are in the imagination of thinking.
That's it,
That's all you need to do.
And you do that with the body.
That's what we call pure being or pure experiencing.
That's what all the traditions are pointing to.
Not the imagined body.
Not the imagination.
Let's go quiet.
I'm going to guide us through a short mountain meditation.
And here we use the imagination.
Something useful.
And then we're going to drop it.
But right now have a sense of the big beautiful mountain.
This mountain is still.
And silent.
This mountain.
Is just here.
Present.
Mountain is not leaning into the future.
Think about the past.
So we're just sitting like a mountain.
The mountain accepts everything.
No judgment.
Mind the avalanches,
The storms,
The sunny days.
It just sits silently.
Sitting like a mountain.
Clouds drift by.
The mountain.
Pays them no heed.
Completely unconcerned.
And thoughts are like those clouds.
Can we be just a little unconcerned?
There are thousands of thoughts a day.
And we're going to feel the mountain itself.
Or more accurately,
The body.
So we drop the image of the mountain.
Adopt a little stillness.
We relax.
At last,
Just feel your feet.
I'd better close your eyes for this.
Just feel that.
Fizzing energy that's out experienced.
Nor imagining,
Not thinking.
Just feeling directly.
Becoming very intimate.
Now fill your contact with the chair or whatever you're sitting on.
In my experience,
I take away the concept,
There's no chair,
There's just sensation.
Just be with that sensation.
Just feel it.
Feel the tinglingness or the aliveness.
Just allowing yourself to relax into this.
Now take your attention to the face,
An interesting area.
Around the jaw.
Just move the attention around,
Notice the different nuances of sensations.
Maybe you sense some tension around the eyes.
Just feel that.
Don't try to change anything.
This is your experience.
This is your direct,
Actual experience.
So become intimate with it.
Now,
Is there an emotion here?
Or a feeling maybe of sadness.
It being sense of heaviness.
Whatever.
Go direct again.
Not thinking about it.
It is pure feeling.
That's all you need to do.
Be going to thinking,
It's okay.
Like those clouds let them drift away.
That take their natural course,
They'll just disappear.
And back to right here,
Right now.
It's all about feeling and observing.
So we heal our lives.
If the mind wants to think about the feeling.
Just drop the thought.
Go direct.
And very tender.
A little curious.
But courageous.
You can feel anything.
Now if you wish.
And switch the attention to the breath.
Are the hearing your choice?
Just hearing.
In a bit of silence.
This is your actual experience right now.
Why be anywhere else?
The only way you can go anywhere else is in thinking or imagination.
And their tools.
Absolutely simple.
If you wish you can do.
It's your choice,
You can open your eyes,
Keep them closed.
So your direct experience is feeling.
Hearing.
Seeing.
Five senses.
What is your actual experience?
We spend much of our time imagining a different experience.
So we miss life.
This immediacy is where the wonder is.
Reveals itself.
Many of us take what the mind says.
To be our reality.
And that's why we suffer.
Psychologically,
Mentally.
Are complicated.
And you can begin to bring this session to a close.
Have a little stretch,
A little wiggle.
Thank you all.
Have a good weekend.
