It can be difficult to unwind whilst on vacation. I think that we have all had at least one vacation from which we returned feeling less than rejuvenated because we were unable to fully disconnect during the vacation itself. I wrote this poem to remind us of the importance of self-care and taking breaks; to strive to live our best lives, whether we are on vacation or not. Written and read by Stephanie Pericich

Passengers frolic on the shore.

I catch up on my work.

It's all right.

I can play later.

I head down to the disembarkment ramp.

Shore time is over for the day.

Diners feast on duck à l'orange.

I grab a quick latte.

It's all right.

I can eat later.

I finally make it to the buffet.

All that is left are greasy fries.

Families snorkel and sightsee.

I write a few postcards.

It's all right.

I can go later.

There's a sign on the activity desk.

We're sorry.

All tours are booked.

Couples sip daiquiris poolside.

I knock out some e-mails.

It's all right.

I can lounge later.

I grab my swimsuit,

Beach towel,

And sunscreen.

A thunderstorm is on the way.

Folks fill their bags with souvenirs.

I pack clothes and papers.

It's over.

Where did the time go?

I take a midnight stroll up on the deck.

I never even saw a beach.
