Today I want to introduce you to somatic breath work and how it can support our connection with ourselves.
The breath is something that we're always doing,
Often without even thinking about it.
And yet our breath is deeply connected with our emotions and our experience within the body.
Somatic breathwork brings awareness to this relationship.
Rather than seeing the breath as something that we need to control or perfect,
We just begin to use it as a way of listening,
Noticing and creating a deeper connection with ourselves.
There are many different approaches to breathwork.
Some practices involve conscious connected breathing and this can be a really powerful and transformative experience when held in the right way.
A trauma-informed approach recognises that breathwork is also not a one-size-fits-all process.
Everyone is different.
This isn't about pushing through or trying to force an experience or create a particular outcome.
It's more about creating a supportive space where you can connect with your body and move and breathe in a way that feels right for you.
Breathwork we may also weave in other practices alongside the breath such as intuitive movement,
Sound,
Self-touch,
Grounding and body awareness.
Because these practices combined support a deeper connection with the body and create space for emotions,
Sensations and experiences to be met with more awareness and compassion.
And sometimes this may involve conscious connected breathwork,
Sometimes the most supportive practice may be simply noticing your breath,
Slowing down,
Finding your rhythm or using the breath alongside gentler nervous system practices.
The breath can become a bridge back to ourselves,
A way of noticing what's happening within us and it's a way of creating moments of presence and connection.
Breathwork isn't about changing who you are,
It's about creating the conditions.
Where you can listen more deeply to your body and support your nervous system.
You might take a moment now to notice your breath.
Not needing to change it.
Not needing to do anything differently,
Simply noticing that you are breathing.
And this moment of awareness is where that connection begins.
