So co-regulation is the way that we can become influenced by the presence of another person.
And as humans we are wired for connection.
We're not designed to be able to do everything alone.
See if you can think about a moment when being with someone calm,
Supportive or understanding helped you to feel more settled.
And that's an example of co-regulation.
It's something that we really feel,
Actually.
Through safe and supportive connection.
Our bodies can receive messages of safety,
Just slowly,
Bit by bit.
This doesn't mean another person fixes us or changes our emotions,
It just means that the relationships can provide support and stability.
Many people,
Especially after periods of stress,
Difficult experiences,
For many of these people,
Learning to receive support can take time.
So the journey back to connection begins gently.
It may start with just one safe person.
Might start with learning to be a bit kinder to yourself.
Might start with recognising that needing support is really a part of being human.
Healing doesn't happen in isolation,
It really happens through connection with like-minded people,
Through being seen,
Through being heard,
Through being supported and through remembering that we were never meant to carry anything alone.
