This mindful practice can be done both inside and outside, and options are given for people for whom walking is difficult. We begin by simply standing (or sitting) and noticing sensations and breath in the body as they come and go. Once we feel grounded and present in the body, with the next inhale, we lift one of the feet, and on the exhale, we move it forward. On the next inhale, we lift the other foot and place it forward with the exhale. Once established, we start noticing the sensations in our feet as they meet the earth and slowly expand our awareness to encompass the whole body. We also look for any effect this is having on our whole system (heart rate slowing, muscle tone relaxing, energy balancing, etc.) and notice any joy, enjoyment, and/or relief that might have arisen.
