Chanting For Peace - Shanti
“Shanti” in Sanskrit means peace, and “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti” is a sacred mantra that invites calm into the present moment. It is traditionally chanted while seated comfortably, either cross-legged or in lotus or half-lotus if accessible, with the body relaxed and open, and the hands resting naturally—at the heart in prayer (Anjali Mudra), in the lap with one hand resting on the other and palms facing upward, on the thighs in Gyan Mudra (thumb and index finger touching), or simply open and relaxed. This mantra can also be practiced anywhere, especially in moments of stress or anxiety, when you need to quickly calm the mind and return to balance. Pronunciation is important in Sanskrit, as even small variations can affect meaning and intention, so each sound should be spoken clearly and mindfully. Repeating “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti” helps calm the nervous system, quiet the mind, and gently ground you, supporting a return to inner stillness and peace.
