The equinox is an opportunity to align our bodies and minds with the still point of the season.
The inherent balance that is present when our planet experiences equal periods of dark and light.
So to begin,
Get yourself really comfortable and see if you can arrange your body so that it is balanced and symmetrical,
Moving your arms and legs,
Adjusting pillows,
Whatever you need to do to make your body as balanced as possible.
Now make it heavy and even heavier still.
And focus on your breath.
See if you can feel the air entering both nostrils at the same time,
And in particular that tiny half second of time at the top and bottom of each breath where there is stillness.
Just keep breathing in your normal way.
This isn't about holding your breath,
But just bring awareness to that moment when you are not inhaling or exhaling.
It's just a microsecond of perfect stillness between the breaths.
And now shift your awareness to your left hand.
What energy do you feel there?
What temperature?
What trembling?
What heaviness?
In your mind's eye,
Trace the shape of your hand,
Your fingers.
Now turn your attention to the right hand.
What is the same and what feels different?
Just observe any differences in the sensation between your right and left hand.
If you can feel your pulse on one side,
Can you match it on the other?
And as you continue to breathe,
Imagine a golden thread of light connecting your hands,
Gently flowing between the right and the left.
They are separate,
But connected,
Parts of a whole.
Keep seeing this golden thread of light flowing back and forth between the right hand and the left hand,
Balancing the energy and creating a sense of equilibrium.
And now send a new golden thread of light between your right and left shoulder.
Feel your shoulders relaxing and dropping down.
See how they are distinct.
Maybe one is tighter than the other,
But also see how they're connected.
Allow this flowing connection to bring them into balance.
Allow a new golden thread of light to connect your right foot and your left foot.
Notice how they might be slightly different,
But they function together.
See this light flowing and allow it to calibrate itself so that both feet feel grounded and steady.
Now begin a new golden thread from your right temple to your left temple,
Seeing it shimmer across your forehead or move directly through your brain,
Tuning into the sense of balance that it brings,
Allowing your mind to feel clear and organized.
And now that our bodies are balanced on both sides,
Let's turn to the idea of balancing our emotions,
The light and the dark.
And almost like flipping through a book,
Take a quick inventory of all the emotions,
Easy,
Difficult,
High and low,
Light and dark,
Greeting them all with curiosity and acceptance.
With every inhale,
Create more space for these emotions to exist.
With every exhale,
Diffusing them through your body so that no one emotion takes center stage.
Inhaling and seeing the full spectrum of feelings that can be experienced by a human.
Exhaling,
Allowing them to spread and flow,
Losing their charge.
Inhaling to open up the ocean within you where all emotions are welcome.
Exhaling to swirl those emotions together in the waves,
Always moving,
Never overpowering.
Noticing that you can contain all the emotions ever felt and remain safe.
Seeing how they are meant to exist in balance,
That your full emotional landscape makes you whole.
And just breathing in the sense of balance,
Of equal respect for all that makes you human.
And when you're ready,
You can take a deep breath and start to move and stretch,
Trusting that you can return to this sense of balance whenever you want.
Carry the awareness of your interconnectedness and wholeness with you as you navigate this week.
And look for opportunities to play with your habitual responses.
You get to rotate through the full spectrum of your emotions.
Thank you.
