We are inundated with imagery about fathers.
The doting dad,
Dancing with his daughter.
The bedraggled businessman,
Absent from his kids,
But working himself to the bone for their benefit.
The playful powerhouse,
Roughhousing with his boys.
The raging alcoholic,
Falling far short of what his family deserves.
Let's set aside all of these portrayals for now,
As well as whatever version you personally encountered as a child.
This Father's Day,
Let's construct your ideal father figure.
Loving,
Playful,
Thoughtful,
Protective,
Gentle.
Whatever you most crave,
It can be yours.
So taking a deep breath,
And settling in.
If you're sitting,
Try to lean against something for support.
And if you're lying down,
Try to really feel your back being held.
Open your eyes if you feel safe enough to do so.
Just breathe.
Imagine a table in front of you,
Handmade of sturdy oak,
Solid and stable.
You are at the head of your table,
And you have invited very special guests to join you.
First comes the King Archetype,
To take his seat across from you at the table.
He is capable of protecting people,
And land.
Sitting in deep contemplation,
And planning for the future.
Take note how he exudes confidence and integrity.
Now,
Here comes the Warrior Archetype,
Sitting to your right.
Brave,
Yes,
But not violent.
He moves with purpose.
He acts with righteousness,
And clear sight.
He is decisive,
And humble,
Acting for the greater good.
Notice his power,
How he offers you safety,
Without oppression.
What are you noticing in the right side of your body?
And finally,
Here comes the Sage Archetype.
As he takes a seat to your left,
He is grounded,
And in deep reciprocity with Gaia,
Mother Earth.
He offers support,
And reflection,
And harmony.
See how he reflects empathy,
And knowing.
And what do you notice in the left side of your body now?
Look out at your guests at the table,
And just sit for a moment with these expressions of divine masculinity.
Know that you are safe in this energy.
They do not need to take from you.
They do not need to dominate.
They are whole,
And complete as they are.
And now you can see a bowl in the center of the table.
Watch as these masculine forms place gifts into the bowl.
Maybe they place their honesty,
Their strength,
Their patience,
Their joy,
Their ability to hold strong boundaries.
Watch as these qualities swirl together,
Forming a shimmering liquid.
Take the bowl,
And drink the liquid.
Feel it sliding down,
Filling you up.
Trust that you have ingested these qualities,
That they will take root in you.
That you now hold these gifts of the divine masculine.
You are your own king,
Your own warrior,
Your own sage.
Find where these qualities want to live in your body.
Put your hand over that place,
And know that when you need these qualities,
They will be waiting for you.
You have everything you need.
Be well.
