This is a very short guided visualisation exercise for younger children. It takes them through the senses and the experience of being on a beach, encouraging focus on hearing, feeling and sensing. It reminds children that this safe and happy place exists within them and is something they can choose to visit whenever they wish.

I'd like you to imagine that you see a beach.

It can be a beach that you've visited before or a beach that you have seen in a film or in a book.

Just picture yourself looking at the beach.

You listen carefully,

You can hear the waves gently breaking on the shore.

It sounds somewhat melodic.

You decide that you're going to walk onto the beach,

So you kick off your shoes and with your bare feet you walk onto the sand.

You notice immediately it's smooth,

Soft texture,

It's warm from the sun and your feet sink into the sand with each step that you take.

You decide to walk down the beach,

Toward the shore.

As you do this,

You notice there are seagulls flying in the sky,

Their white shapes outlined against the blue of the sky and you can hear their calls.

It sounds very reassuring and peaceful.

As you get closer to the shoreline,

The sand starts to become firmer and cooler and wetter.

You feel the difference as your feet sink into the sand less than before.

The cool touch of the wet sand is very pleasant on this warm day.

Your toes sink into the sand as you take each step and you can feel the sand between your toes.

You can feel a cool breeze blowing off the sea onto your face and your skin.

It's refreshing after the warmth of the sunlight.

And now as you approach the water,

The cool water laps over your feet and is even more refreshing and comfortable.

The waves are very,

Very gentle and they wash over your feet and your toes.

And as the waves draw back into the sea,

The sand particles run past your feet and you can feel a tingling sensation in your feet as they sink a little deeper into the sand.

With the sight of the ocean,

The sound of the seagulls,

The cool breeze and the coolness on your feet,

But the warmth of the sun on this beautiful day on this wonderful beach,

You feel calm,

Content and happy.

And inside you're smiling to yourself,

Knowing that you can come back here anytime you want,

Simply by closing your eyes and imagining your beach.

This works well for adults too—your calm voice, the beautiful beach description—I relaxed completely! Wish it were longer!🙏
