Hello friend,
Welcome to Authoring Hope,
The coffee shop sessions.
There's something I love about sitting in the familiar atmosphere of a coffee shop,
The quiet conversations,
The background noise,
The warmth of a drink in your hands,
And the feeling that life is moving around you while you take a moment to pause within it.
These sessions are designed to help you sink into that pause and claim it,
And invite you to write a little with a space to reflect,
To breathe,
To journal,
And to reconnect with yourself for a little while.
I'll gently guide you through each session with prompts,
Reflections,
And writing exercises designed to help you find a little clarity,
Process your thoughts,
And explore what's happening beneath the surface.
And while I loved this idea of a coffee shop,
You really can do this anywhere.
A quiet room at home,
A park bench,
A train journey,
Or a cozy corner of a library.
The important thing is simply this,
You're choosing to pause intentionally.
So wherever you are,
And whatever's in your cup,
I'm really glad you're here.
Today's journey is called Spark,
To ignite something new.
Before anything else,
Gather your drink,
Something warming perhaps,
Something you can hold in your hands.
Find a seat,
It might be near a window or tucked away in a corner,
For the next 45 minutes,
There is nowhere else you need to be,
No need for productivity or performance,
Just presence.
This session is about Spark,
That tiny beginning of something new.
And we don't need to find certainty or mastery today,
Just acknowledging that first flicker.
So we'll open our journal,
And take a sip of our drink while it's still nice and hot.
And we'll take a few moments just to settle and breathe here.
So we'll take a few moments just to settle and breathe here.
Placing both feet upon the floor.
Relaxing your shoulders.
Take a slow breath in through your nose for four counts.
Hold for two.
And exhale slowly for six.
As you breathe,
Notice,
It might be the feel of the cup in your hands,
Or the feeling of the cup in your hands.
The sounds around you.
The feeling of the chair beneath you.
Or the fact that you have made time for this today.
We do not need to force inspiration in our writing,
We are simply making room for it.
Allowing those sparks to gather a little air.
And you might,
Within your mind's eye,
Ask yourself quietly,
What within me has been waiting for permission to begin?
What within me has been waiting for permission to begin?
We'll sit with that for a moment.
Take your time,
Perhaps,
To take another sip of your drink.
If the eyes are closed,
We'll gently open them.
As we begin to write,
We have three prompts today,
And then a deeper dive writing task.
So our first of three prompts is,
What have I secretly wanted to try?
What have I secretly wanted to try?
I'll give you five minutes to write.
Without editing,
You can just let your pen flow.
What idea,
Project,
Change or creative idea keeps returning to you?
What might you have dismissed because it felt unrealistic or impractical?
Write as honestly as you can.
What have I secretly wanted to try?
As we come to the end of our five minutes,
You can finish up a sentence,
And as always,
You can keep writing if you find yourself in flow.
For our second writing prompt,
What makes me feel most alive lately?
What makes me feel most alive lately?
These can be as many little sparks as rise up.
It could be a song,
A book,
A person or a place.
Perhaps somewhere you've noticed energy returning.
We're following the spark.
So for five minutes,
What makes me feel most alive lately?
Once more,
Taking our time to finish our sentence,
Our words.
As we journey to prompt three.
What would become possible if I stopped waiting to feel ready?
What action might you take?
What might you begin?
What version of yourself might emerge?
For five minutes,
What would become possible if I stopped waiting to feel ready?
If I stopped waiting to feel ready?
You can finish up your sentence or thought as we come to the end of those five minutes.
And you can give yourself a moment here if you'd like to have a little roll with the shoulders,
Or to take a pause to sip your drink.
And when you feel ready,
We're going to look at our deeper dive writing task,
For which I will give you eight minutes to write with.
I'm going to invite you to write a letter from your future self who chose to begin.
Imagine yourself one year from now.
Not perfect,
Not fearless,
Just someone who started.
Write a letter from that version of you back to today.
What are they grateful you did?
What almost stopped you?
What changed because you trusted the spark?
For eight minutes,
Write a letter from your future self who chose to begin.
As we come to the end of our eight minutes,
Take time to finish your sentence or your thought.
And if you'd like,
As we come to the closing of our journey today,
You can look back on all you've written.
Feel free to underline a sentence or a word you wrote that feels particularly important.
Something true or something you might carry with you today.
A spark does not need to become a wildfire overnight.
It only needs a little space to breathe.
Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
I hope this session gave you a little space to pause amidst the familiar hum of life.
A quiet moment to gather your thoughts,
Conjure new ideas,
And let plans gently brew.
Farewell for now,
And until next time,
Keep writing,
Keep reflecting,
And keep authoring hope.
